This hotel is a 3 star hotel - the 4th star is the location. You’re paying for the view and access to the sea. It’s beautiful and quiet, except near the beach club where the music is loud.
However the hotel is let down by the staff and service. I’ve never stayed anywhere quite like it. It took me 2 hours to get a margarita one afternoon with no apologies or explanations. I stopped eating lunch because ordering it was just so difficult every time. If you want food, I worked on the premise that you need to order at least 90 mins before you are hungry, and be prepared for them not to have an ingredient. Over 5 days I was told they had no bread, tea, jam, butter, limes, cheese….
The cleaning staff are wonderful. But the service is so abysmal you start to wonder if you’re the subject of a joke. Then you get reminded frequently that tips are not included in the prices and you realise it’s not.
The food is deeply average, but if you want something else you have to take a golf cart taxi to and from Holbox central, which is 150-200 Mexican pesos one way.
Because the service is so bad, the bar and restaurant are mostly a ghost town with very little atmosphere.
I had a junior suite with a sea view. It was nice, but I had no privacy. There was a swimming pool right outside my room, and curtains that did not close properly unless I used a hair clip to keep them that way. The shower had a window that meant people could see me showering from the pool.
I would not go back.
