Not for everyone but I loved it!
The hotel that we usually stay in didn't have enough nights for us on this trip so we stayed out last night at Tunich. We eat at their restaurant on every trip (we frequent the area) so we need how pretty the grounds were and how good the food was already. We were interested to see the rest! We stayed in room 1 and they let us check in early. It is on the ground floor with beautiful plants all around. The wall and floor are screens and they have drapes for privacy. The bed was comfortable! The shower was a bit cool (not quite cold) for me but perfect for my husband. The porch was nice, it had a hammock and overlooked a lovely area. It is more quite than you would expect but remember to keep your voices down as the screens obviously don't block the sound. The staff is friendly and the good is excellent. You might hear coati's in the tree above you getting excited at night. I highly recommend for a winter trip. Can't say I would stay here in the summer.

Close the public beach and great value. Nice to have the restaurant connected. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, menu, and vibe. We would definitely stay again.

We loved our stay here. Very friendly and down to earth environment with an excellent breakfast and restaurant. It was a bit noisy in our room with the sound of the generator, restaurant music and a raccoon living above the canopy and moving around in the night. The bed was small and not very comfy. Overall we had a great time and would recommend the place for backpackers and younger travelers.

8/10 Very good

very cute, nice and clean budget stay in the hotel zone, close to many bars and venues on the beach strip. The only issues for us were 1. lack of air conditioning 2. the super loud restaurant next door. Unfortunately I couldn’t sleep very well at nights because of these issues. Everything else was good though, we liked the food and were definitely happy to be close to the beach.

Very rustic. Lots of mosquitos as the whole room is only enclosed with screens And they find their way in. Also there’s a huge hole in the middle of the property with stagnant water that probably attracts them more. The bed was ok … the futon was uncomfortable. Lighting was not good. Too dim to even see yourself in the daytime. If you are a couple of dudes or girls who want very basic amenities and don’t care about air or comfort then u will be fine but for the price I paid it wasn’t worth it.

Great people and great vibes. Staff was friendly and helpful, loved our stay. Free breakfast and coffee in the morning was delicious. Good location and there is a bike rental place right in front (which you will need since taxi's overcharge). Thank you Tunich for a lovely time.

Beautiful place to stay in the Hotel zone of Tulum Beach. Very clean cabana and beach just steps away. I will definitely stay here when I visit again. Free fresh fruit, juice, and toast was a perfect start to our day. Much love and thanks!

Everyone at Tunich is kind and knowledgeable and super helpful. I always feel safe and comfortable when staying there. The cabanas are always clean and there are always fresh towels. The food at Tunich is fresh and delicious and I have decided that next time I stay there, I will take advantage of their kitchen more often than venturing out! I can’t wait to go back for another trip!

READ BEFORE BOOKING. Very poor hotel for this price. We knew we will not necessarily get the best hotel by the beach, but this was worse than our expectations. First of all the room was full of dust, even the sofa- we got all itchy from staying there. Also the carpet in the room had a bunch of hair in it! I don't know if they ever cleaned it. The bed was the most uncomfortable bed we had during our stay. Way too soft, our backs were hurting the next day. The breakfast was supposed to be included, BUT only bread and a little bowl of fruits were included. For anything extra we needed to pay extra. Great way to make money out of tourists... Also we got "freshly squeezed" orange juice that was obviously bottled juice that was watered down so much you couldnt even taste the orange! Also the location was not the best. First of all it says that the hotel is on the beachfront, but it's on the other side of the road in the back road. The have access to the water but it's on the other side of the street. Also, this property runs a generator - it was so loud that it was imposible to enjoy nature sounds. The door lock was just ridiculous, it's not safe to leave anything of value inside. Also you can hear your neighbours, because the walls are like paper. The lady at the reception had an attitude that was very unpleasant and cocky. Communication with other staff was pleasant. Of course the house was full of insects and lizards - but that's a part of jungle rustic experience.

I enjoyed the simplicity and "rustic" nature but the price should have been much less for the quality of the amenities and almost non-existent service. Over my four night stay I received service only once, that means I was without clean towels, fresh sheets, and my trash bin was full of poopy toilet paper (with no lid). Since the room didn't have AC and only 1 out of 2 working fans I sweat all night so the lack of new sheets was very noticeable by the end of my stay. The room had only one working electric outlet which meant I had to choose between using the fan or charging my phone, not my favorite decision to have to make. The staff were friendly but there was maybe a disconnect between the restaurant and room staff because I requested service on the room to no avail. The incessant generator noise was a problem for my travel mates but I didn't mind. I think Tunich could be an amazing little spot but right now it's not well maintained, well served, or fairly priced.

The jungle setting and my second story room was SO cool. The door to my room didn't lock, you just pulled on the handle and it opened...but Tulum is so safe and the rooms are far enough away from the main stress that i felt completely comfortable being there alone. The location is perfect, steps from the beach and to a store with sunscreen, snacks, and beer. Bike rentals across the street for 150 pesos, and town, the ruins and all restaurants were either biking or walking distance.

Simple, welcoming & trendy
Tunich was great as always. The owners are friendly Canadians. The food is awesome & the coffee is ground & brewed fresh. Brunch has the place packed daily. People stop in just to eat. The rooms are simple but nice. Generator for electricity & water is trucked in. Beach access is across the street. Usually the beach is beautiful & water is crystal clear, but there was a seaweed bloom all along the coast. Yay spring. Make sure to try a coconut. They machete off the top & stick in a straw.

Cabana on a busy road
The hotel is located on a busy road. The pros—it’s a cabana with a mosquito net so it feels exotic. It’s connected to a restaurant so it’s convenient. Continental breakfast included excellent coffee, toast with jam and fresh fruit. You can also add extras from the menu for a price. It has a free parking one street from the hotel. Cons- it’s very rugged and noisy b/c there are no walls. The shower only had scorching hot water so it was hard to wash my hair. The beach access is not so great as there is a ton of seaweeds and rocks so you cannot swim. The public beach access Is pretty far from the hotel and it is not within a walking distance. If you take your car car, parking is problematic. To pay for this hotel you have to either use PayPal or cash, not convenient. I tried paying by PP but was unable to. So I had to drive to the supermarket to the ATM machine to get thecash. All nearby ATMs weren’t working. The bottom line, if you want a rustic experience for $140 a night, it’s a place to go.

Love Tunich
I love this hotel. I stayed here last year when I visited and when I booked my ticket super last minute I immedietly thought of Tunich. I lucked out and was able to book after someone canceled. The rooms are gorgeous, very simple, very clean. Showers actually have hot water (which is a little difficult to find in Tulum) The restaurant has delicious food and is perfect if you just want to grab an iced coffee on your way to the beach. Staff is also great, super nice, and chill. But obviously the best part is the price point and location. your Right across from the beach, you can rent bikes across the street, and are right next to a little convince store (atm, tolietries, snacks) and a other bars and restaurants. I highly recommend staying here and would defiantly book again. Oh and wifi is super strong and I had great reception in my room (which I've never had in another hotel in Tulum).
