This was our third trip to an all inclusive in Mexico. The Riu Tequila was by far the worst of the three. The good… the beach and pools were nice, and the property was clean. The bad… Almost everything else. Without getting into too much detail…Our room while being clean, stunk of mildew. Our room phone didn’t work and never got fixed. We didn’t have an umbrella and after multiple requests never got one. The service on a scale of 1 to 10 was about a 3. The food was just average and my wife and I both came down with terrible cases of traveler’s diarrhea. The drink choices were limited, if you like beer, you had better like Dos Equis because it is your only choice. No top shelf liquor, in fact the famous in room liquor dispenser had brands of liquor we have never seen and tasted absolutely horrible. No beach or pool drink service. If you’ve never been anywhere else I’m sure you’d think this place was awesome. Take my advice, spend the extra money and go somewhere else.

The people that work here were fantastic! Very nice and helpful any time my wife and I had questions or asked for recommendations. We were just so disappointed with the food. I've been to other all inclusive resorts in Mexico and the food here was subpar. They had the same choices during breakfast, but changed the menu for lunch and dinner. I really appreciated the different types of juices served during breakfast as I love fresh guanabana and drank it quite often. The food just had no strong flavor to them which was quite surprising. They had a special Christmas Eve dinner that was spectacular and even had an ice sculpture that said Feliz Navidad. That meal was great, so the other days fell short of that expectation.

We enjoyed our stay at Riu Tequila. We liked that you did not have to make reservations for dinner at the al-cart restaurants. The buffet had lots of food options. Plenty of chairs by the pool if you get there before 10 am. It is a little harder to find them together if you have more than 2 people traveling in your group after that time. The pool area does not have staff walking around taking drink orders, so you will need to use the swim up bar or walk to the bar if you would like a refill on your beverage while at the pool area. The beach access was a nice walk down a covered pathway or you could choose to ride the shuttle, that runs about every 10/15 mins. You are able to dine while at the beach. The buffet has a nice selection. The only down side to the beach area is there is no bar for mixed drinks. They do have beer on tap, water, coffee and pop in the buffet area at the beach, but if you are wanting that mixed drink I would suggest to bring one with you from the lobby bar. Our room was in unit 6 and for the most part quite and easy walking distance from the restaurants and pools. One down side is you can hear your neighbors through the wall/shower ventilation system if they are loud or they just like to sing in the shower:) The room is spacious and offers, coffee, water, beer, hard liquor, club soda, ice bucket and pop in the mini bar area of your room. The shower does have shampoo and soap available but no lotion or conditioner in case you forgot yours.

La propiedad está muy bonita y grande, pero de igual forma me sorprende que con tanto dinero que ganan, las habitaciones y pasillos estén tan outdated… quiero pensar que es por el rango en el que este resort se encuentra, pero siendo que es de la familia Riu, todos tendrían que estar por el mismo nivel. El personal es crudo, no te brindan ese calor familiar que esperas recibir, (no generalizo) hay personas como Rey el bartended, el fue super nice y atento. Front desk personal is rude.
