The Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Centre features a 700-foot boardwalk over the wetland marsh as well as a native pollinator garden and large trees near the entrance. You can find the centre located just down the street from Port Aransas Community Park.
As you stroll down the boardwalk, you will spot numerous species of birds, turtles, and possibly even the 2 resident alligators. On Wednesdays at 9 am, you can join birding experts for a guided tour. They will have binoculars available to loan if needed.

Port Aransas Museum chronicles the town’s history through permanent and rotating exhibits. You can find the museum in city centre Port Aransas, where the historical kit house itself was moved from its original location. Featured exhibits change periodically, but all of them showcase Port Aransas’ rich history. You can learn about the town’s tarpon fishing industry that spanned over 70 years, or about the long process of taming the channel that is today used to access the Port Aransas harbour.
Permanent exhibits include films about the port from the 1920s and 1930s, as well as numerous historical photos and documents. While admission is free, donations are greatly appreciated.

Lighthouse Lakes Trail

The Lighthouse Lakes Trails are a great spot for you to paddle through the peaceful coastal black mangroves. Trail entrances can be found off of State Highway 361 on North Harbour Island, and there are 4 trails that connect to the central lake.
Kayaking or paddleboarding on these waterways will give you access to remote areas that cannot be reached by motorboats. You may enjoy fishing in this secluded area, as it is well known for trout, flounder, and redfish. Be sure to bring your binoculars to observe the diverse bird population.
