Lovely atmosphere with old world charm. However, In places the decor was tired and redecoration was required. The public rooms seemed to be not quite fully furnished or finished and somewhat bare. Whilst the staff were at all times pleasant and polite no person made any effort to engage me in conversation. As a lone traveller that meant I eat all my meals in silence in rooms that had no background music playing. It was a lonely experience. Several times I had to wait over ten minutes at the front desk for staff to appear and provide service.

The staff were lovely and the location is wonderful. But the room we had is very small for a double and the bathroom was icy cold. The electric towel rail helped but, in early January, it was just not enough.
That said, we'll go back in the summer.

Bags of potential in this well-positioned inn.
The Amberley Inn has bags of character if it is a little faded in appearance. Its situation is excellent with views over open country. The reception was friendly, rooms were clean, breakfast was well-cooked if the ancilliary elements were rather thin. With investment, this could prove a real star and could command much higher prices.

Lovely location
Our room was disappointingly small with inadequate storage. The bar & restaurant were good but the accommodation is a little tired. We still thoroughly enjoyed our stay as The Amberley is superbly located. I’ll

Overnight near Stroud
Well placed hotel on edge of Minchinhampton Common. Car parking OK, but along side main road in lay-by. Room adequate, simply but well furnished. Bathroom fine. No mobile phone signal, but hotel WiFi OK (and free).
Breakfast excellent, using locally sourced ingredients - not mass produced sausages as an example.
All staff friendly, helpful, and happy.
Would stay again if need to be in area.

I stayed for two nights and I enjoyed mostly the view from the room. Very convenient to walk around the Common and enjoying the scenery made it very pleasant.

Quaint country inn
The greeting and welcome was friendly. We were offered a drink while they put together a camp bed for our (25 yr old) daughter, which turned out to be a blow up mattress on the floor of the sitting room in our room! There was a two seater sofa....this should have been a sofa bed for such occasions as an accompanying child or third person. Needless to say, it was an uncomfortable night for her. The room was beautifully decorated and new. But the shower was a small old rusty head that squirted hard spray at you. Very unsatisfying, and the pillows, although we were assured that they were new, had a funny smell that was hard to ignore when you lay on them. Dinner and breakfast at the inn were exceptional and we really enjoyed the quiet country surroundings. We took long walks and played our backgammon in the beer garden before dinner. Would definitely return if they get a new shower head and change the pillows. They did listen to and noted our comments when we checked out. All in all, an nice place.
