The property was really run down. I had a suite, the plug sockets were coming out of walls, shower didn’t run, and the TV and electrics set up was a health and safety nightmare. Wouldn’t return

An odd hotel
An odd hotel, it's noisy, the doors are too small for the frame, so let's in sound and draughts. You can hear other people in the shower. The bathroom had an odd smell, not damp something else. The curtains were black out, which was good and the bed comfortable. Check out nobody to be found. Wasn't offered or told anything about the hotel so no idea if they did food or not. I was just given a key to the room.

Enjoyable stay, my second time!
Very good location, handy for nice restaurants, pubs and museums. Quiet/safe area. Beautiful entrance/staircase in the hotel plus the dining area we used for breakfast was equally impressive. The full English breakfast was nice although poached eggs were overcooked. We were not waiting long, but I think that we had been forgotten about as breakfast overall was tasty but not piping hot. As well as the cooked breakfast there were self service cereals, toast etc. No pastries, fruit or cooked meats, but the available choice was ample. Service friendly and courteous both at reception and breakfast. Room clean - small but adequate with a comfortable bed. The only problem was the bathroom which was fitted with a rainfall shower so difficult to use if not washing your hair, plus no plug if you wanted a bath. We only stayed one night so not a massive problem. Please note in Room One (should have mentioned it on departure) the shower screen allowed water to escape all over the bathroom floor so needs a seal. Would definitely stay again.

Not what we expected
When we first arrived at the hotel, it did not look like the photos. It was down a side street with no immediate parking - we had to park in a neighbouring solicitor’s car park. In the entrance there were lots of boxes and the decor looked tired. The receptionist looked like she was about to finish her shift - her bag on her back ready. We were tempted not to stay however once we saw the room was clean we decided to stay as we had had a long journey. The room was quite small.

No photo ID no room (apparently)
Asked for photo ID when I checked my brother in at 8pm as it was 'company policy'. He didn't have any but I did, but otherwise they would presumably not have honoured the booking. No one on reception to check out at 8:30am, no response to bell, no one in restaurant, my brother waited 15 mins then gave up leaving key on desk with a note.

Okay but not great
Reception staff were helpful, the room was clean and comfortable -however you need to put the wifi code in the room for easy access. At breakfast I asked the staff about whether the bacon was smoked or nor not and I was assured it wasn't, however it was and -very disappointing. Staff should know about the food they serve especially after all the news lately abut allergies etc.

Great business stay
The building itself is a little bit tired but the staff are brilliant and made the whole stay very easy and pleasant. I was there for two nights and it seemed like nothing was too much trouble.

I would suggest that this is a hotel in transition. It needs a lot of work done to bring it up to scratch (plaster coming off the walls, light bulbs missing etc) however the staff are fabulous, the breakfast very good, the rooms clean enough and the bed was very comfortable. All in all my new go to in Derby
