Premier class accommodation
The whole of the personnel at THE RISING SUN worked as a team to make our stay [my wife and I] a memorable one from our welcome with a beaming smile on Wedensday just after 2 to our departure today [Friday] just before 10. On our first evening there were two problems with our room - a faulty light and curtains that let the light in BUT BOTH were immediately fixed to everyone's satisfaction - fabulous! Breakfasts were served on time and the chef was very understanding about our requirements. The lady cleaner was very thorough in what she did - why do say that? Because as a former science teacher observation is very important and I still can't stop observing what's going on around me!! Sorry if that sounds as if i'm a nosey-parker!! I had to attend a meeting of the Monmouthshrie Railway Society where I had a word with its President about the committee discussing and recommending the possibility of any guest speakers that requried overnight accommodation staying at The Rising Sun, Rogerstone, Newport as a result of our more than satisfactory two night stay. A very pleasant setting and although there was much traffic on the road outside especially during the morning rush-hour - there was NO NOISE from it - super! I've attached a few quick photos of the TWIN-BEDDED room [Room 2] which had plenty of draws and cupboards for us! Please copy this review to ALL at THE RISING INN - they ALL deserve praise! Ken and Tricia Mumford - Swindon but orginally from Cefn Fforest, Blackwood.

Although an older property, the room was very clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was spotlessly clean. Breakfast was great and Jane was very friendly and welcoming. I’ll definitely stay again if in the area.

A welcoming, comfortable, peaceful, place to stay.
It was a lovely stay, very friendly staff, and an awesome breakfast. A beautiful, and peaceful setting, with ample car parking. Plus, as they were very quiet on the bookings front, they gave me a more spacious twin room, although I'm sure the single room would have been just as nice. Lovely soft pillows, although I did find the mattress a little firm for my taste, but I understand that is just my personal preference. The only other slight suggestion would be to have some sort of 'blackout' curtains or blinds, as the sunlight did shine through in the morning and woke me a little earlier than my alarm was set for.

Stayed overnight as needed somewhere near to stay for a friend’s birthday celebrations. The room was dated but clean and the bed a little wobbly but comfortable. We had a nice cooked breakfast and the staff were very kind and accommodating with regard to a food allergy.

Quiet stay and friendly staff
Disappointed to not know the restaurant was closed before I arrived. The staff were friendly and the room was good. The breakfast service was efficient and the food good. The bathroom did not work for me having a wet shave with no mirror over the washbasin and the curtains in the room did not keep the sunlight out

We had an overnight stay here which was very convenient for seeing a concert at Utilita Arena in Cardiff. The check in was very fast. The manager was very friendly and helpful by carrying our luggage to our room. The room is clean and comfortable. The full English breakfast was very good and served piping hot. I highly recommend this hotel/pub.

Our stay was great, the manager was really kind, friendly and polite, let us check in before the 2pm time so we were able to get to the game. Gave us advice on transport on how to get to the station, nothing was too much. Breakfast the next morning was lovely and set us up for the day. Only thing I didn’t like was that the heating was on all night but that’s just a personal preference. Thank you for the hospitality

Very welcoming
My daughter and I had a nice stay here. Landlord was very nice, friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good, fresh ingredients. Chef was very pleasant and looked after us well. Our room was above the bar but we were not disturbed by any noise from the bar. Bit of noise from the road but did go quiet later. Depends what you are used to. Room was clean, big, lots of storage if you need it. Bathroom was basic but clean. Tea and coffee facilities in the room and a small TV. Bed was not to my liking but I struggle in a strange bed so again it's what you are used to. The building is showing its age and could do with a bit of tlc but money will always be a factor. Overall, no complaints and we were made to feel very welcome. Might stay again next year when the six nations are on again.
