Good value hotel. Very comfortable and staff were very friendly and helpful. Decor is a bit dated - room only had 2 power sockets, for example.

Do not do this to yourself

Awful. There were hairs in the bed, the bathroom was unclean, the entire building smelled of the restaurant next door. I had to leave early due to the un-cleanliness after one night. Incredibly disappointed. Check in staff were lovely but otherwise not worth the bed bugs.

Good enough for the price.

Ok for a cheap single room. Good breakfast included. Hotel forgot to turn my room heating on. Also some fire door closers need replacing. The doors bang loudly.

A smart reception and dining area, with friendly and helpful staff. Cooked breakfast made to order, with a continental selection also available for self service. My single room was reasonably sized and clean. The car park entrance was on a steep slope, and the car park itself was in need of some attention. Overall a good value stay, and would stop there again in the future.

Unfortunately the property needs a lot of Love! The ground floor has been refurbished and looks good and the staff on check in were pleasant and helpful. The breakfast is beyond awful. It’s just wide of the mark on all counts. We went elsewhere for breakfast on second morning although we had breakfast included. The rooms - the beds are not terribly nice with poor linen And the bathroom smell of urine the entire stay. All this coupled by a loud fight in the hall outside adjoining room between two men - one who claimed the other was related to the owner. Very disappointing - needs someone to grab hold of the management Could be good with some genuine strong management.

Reception Staff (smiler) didn’t understand what disabied twin room is. Made my disabled husband walk more than 20 steps up to 1st floor and then another 20 steps to last room on 1st floor. My husband had polio when he was 2.5 years old. He had been wearing a caliper on his right leg since 2.5 years old. I don’t think smiler’s English language understanding is good enough for her job. I rang to ask for disabled twin room. She said she move us down from 2nd floor to 1st floor near to reception on ground floor. Room 119 was not the 1st room on the 1st floor. It was the last room on the 1st floor! The 1st floor corridor was a death trap; too narrow. This is an old hotel. In the event of a fire, there will be a stampede and people will be trampled to death in the panic. I normally stay in IHG , Marriott and Premier inn hotels. They have wide corridors so people will not be trampled to death in an emergency. Plus, the hotels we stay at have Disabled bedrooms which are more spacious and can accommodate a wheelchair. If Continental Derby hotel didn’t have disabled bedrooms, the receptionist should have said they don’t have disabled bedrooms and advised me to go elsewhere when I rang more than 1 week before checking in. She probably thought she was being helpful by moving us from 2nd floor to 1st floor. The room was so unsuitable we drove home from derby to new Malden KT3 3JJ that same night. We did not stay in the hotel room. I would like a full refund of £58.68 please. Thanks

Don’t Bother

Drab rooms, the only bit of the hotel that looked decent was the reception. But the staff were alright. The bed was decent in the room but that’s where the good things end. The wallpaper was peeling, there was mold in the sealing on the bathtub in the bathroom - a room that didn’t even have a lock. There were awkard divots in the ceiling that made showering awkward. The carpets were drab, the hallways had no attention. The towels and floor mat for the bathroom were stained. The 3 nights I stayed I had to deal with an annoying beep coming from a door in the corridor. I let reception know about it but nothing was done to stop the beep. It was so persistent and I could hear it from my room so I ended up having to play music to cover the noise in attempt to sleep. The wifi was so bad all work I intended to get done was not possible. The breakfast choices were basic and there were no variations in hot breakfast. It was full English and the vegetarian option was the full English minus the meat. There was no choice in different types of egg, only scrambled and the continental breakfast options were seriously limited. Even the fruit juices tasted insanely cheap, I’m not even sure they had real apple juice. The car park was down a very large steep and is in desperate need of repaving. The walls of the rooms were insanely thin so you could hear everything from the neighbouring rooms. Don’t stay here. It’s not worth even the little money you may give them.

A hotel with good service

A hotel on a busy road but with parking facilities on site. It was some distance from the town but there is a bus stop nearby (these stop running pretty early). It is located next to an Indian restaurant where we could have a meal with 15% discount for staying at the hotel. The room was small and very warm, opening the window meant noise from the traffic. Unfortunately the TV remote did not work in the room, although staff did try to resolve the issue unsuccessfully. It was nice to have a bath in the en suite room; something that is lacking in many hotels!
Deirdre, 1-night trip

2/10 Poor

Absolutely unacceptable experience. The room was unbearably hot, and it was clear the sheets had not been changed before our arrival, we found multiple hairs on the bed. When we requested an iron and ironing board, both were broken and unusable. Overall, the standards of cleanliness and basic amenities were shockingly poor. Avoid this hotel at all costs, you’ll be glad you did.
Zuhaib, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

The quality is slightly below what you would get for the same price in other cities. But there aren't many options in Derby. The hotel is fine in general.
