Not without glitches this time
This is a second time I stayed in this hotel. The hotel is a tourist hotel with an excellent location, and the traffic on W 48th street is not so bad, so the hotel is relatively quiet for midtown New York. This time, however, my first room was a bit problematic: air conditioner leaked water on the floor, and the internet was not working. I complained the very first morning, and they told me that somebody would look at it. The floor was cleaned in the evening, WLAN still not working, and again water on the floor the next morning. After the second complaint they then gave me a new room which was quite OK (although I had to take my luggage myself downstairs, never happened when I have needed to change rooms in big-name hotels). (They had mentioned the possibility of a new room already after the first complaint, but then I had to rush to work in the morning.) Rooms can have technical problems, that is a part of travelling and the staff can't always detect them (housekeeping should have noticed that AC water leak), but I complain about the attitude: no apologies, and when I complained about the resort fee for non-working internet and room clearly not in proper condition, the attitude of the receptionist was that it was somehow my fault. (And the resort fee was not included in the "total" price advertised in Hotels.com.) Otherwise staff was friendly, but they obviously can't handle problem situations.

Quality hotel with helpful staff and comfortable beds. Rooms were clean and tidy. Also nice with the amenities-internet availability in the hotel lobby and ice tea as well with the hot, humid weather-nice touch.

The hotel is centrally located and literally a one minute walk from the heart of Times Square. The lobby, room size, and gym are okay. The hotel and rooms are a bit run down compared to competitor hotels with comparable ratings in the area. I have stayed at several so I know the comparison first hand. The downside was the bedding was dirty, but was replaced without issue. I also had to wait an hour, two days in a row to have my room clean when returning in the evening. That was the most frustrating issue and I did not feel like the front desk was fully responsive as I have experienced at other hotels. With that said, I cannot be to upset. You get what you pay for, and I paid half the price the competitor hotels were offering. The hotel has a lot of potential, but attention to detail by the staff is not where it should be for the price point, and they really need to step up their game.

Tiny is an understatement!
The only good thing about this hotel was the location. The room was tiny! We spent no time in the room at all but it was still too small. We had no space to put our suitcases. We couldn’t stand on one side of the bed because the air conditioning was there which also leaked everywhere and soaked our bags. The bathroom was even smaller you had to practically stand in the shower to close the door and there was hundreds of little flies in the shower. There was a wardrobe in the room but we couldn’t open it as the bed was in the way. The bed clothes were stained. It was just a horrible experience. Even the bed was too small I’m 5 ft 7 and all my feet were hanging off the end of the bed. It said it was a double room but it wasn’t big enough for one person!!

Clean and Conveniently Located
The Gallivant is right in the heart of Manhattan, at Times Square, and offers a clean and comfortable bolthole for the Big Apple visitor. I should hope that the hot water issue (lack thereof due to a boiler problem) would not be a recurrent theme. Overall, a pleasant stay.

Not as good as before
Second time staying here. Rooms fine and location couldn’t be better but for some reason this stay the hotel was over run with children seeming like a youth chub at times.

Everything is tiny, never going again.
Not good. I booked the family room and they had already given it up so we had to be given two rooms to make up for the number of beds we needed. The size of the room is smaller than the average household bathroom. It looked like someone had tried breaking into the door in the past. The door barely sat on the frame and you had to slam into it to get it to open. The bathroom was tiny, no room to even turn around. The entire lobby was filled with a hundred people and a hundred bags all chained together, i dont know what was happening but it made it uncomfortable to be downstairs. You had to turn sideways and squeeze into the elevator to get in and out.
