Highlights of Stansted Airport

The Stansted Airport offers a main passenger terminal with 3 passenger satellite departure gates. The building was designed with a floating roof and inverted pyramid roof trusses to create the look of a swan in flight.

The airport played an important role in England’s history. It opened in 1943 and served as a maintenance depot and bomber airfield for the Royal Air Force and the United States Army Air Forces known as the RAF Stansted Mountfitchet. It was also allocated as a heavy-bomber airfield, a supply depot and a location for housing prisoners of war before opening for commercial operations in 1966.
