Do visit at least a couple of the five lovely waterfalls all close to the town and a great footpath between most of them. Good base to explore Northland or take a bus tour to Cape Reinga.

Pretty neat houses. Plenty options of restaurants. If you have a child, must visit the Parrot place - you can pat and hold parrots on your hands or your shoulder.
"Polite and helpful staff. The room was spacious and the bed was amazing. The buffet breakfast was not available however the a la carte breakfast was excellent. We also had dinner at the hotel's restaurant and thoroughly loved it."
