Decent hotel in great location
Location within sight of the Royal Mile is great. Service is very good. Plumbing is old and makes quite a bit of noise. Cleanliness is so-so. Breakfast area has a great view of the castle.

8/10 Very good

An escape to Edinburgh
Very clean and reasonably comfortable - bedroom would benefit from additional natural ventilation at night when balcony door had to remain closed and locked - because same balcony was shared by 4/5 other rooms- the fact that reception was being re/modelled was a temporary inconvenience but still lessened the hotel experience

4/10 Fair

Not worth a penny
The hotel is run down and it's an absolute scam what they charge you just because it's in Edinburgh. The bathroom was completely not fit for purpose, the beds were clearly old and the view was not very appealing. The staff were lovely though and I think it's the staff that gives this hotel any credibility. The Mercure should be absolutely ashamed of allowing this hotel to fall in to complete disrepair.

2/10 Poor

Waste of money
Horrible condition.Very rundown. Keycard stopped working 2x. No ramp in front of hotel made it hard for luggage. Called ahead to made sure it had reliable Wi-Fi. They said it did but the connection dropped every 2 minutes which made working remotely impossible. Staff was pleasant and the location was good but would not stay here again.

4/10 Fair

heartbreaking and frustrating
well it was a bad surprise. fancy photographs, enchanting words but reality was so shocking that the room was extremely small and tight. the bad was small in itself but there was a narrow passage btwn it and the wall. We could not even open our bags because there was absolutely no room at all. Yet the service was ok. the lobby was at a difficult point and unfortunately reception people were definitely unfriendly. It was a pity over all for a well-deserve brand.

Good place to stay
Good place to stay. Near the train station with many different kinds of restaurant. The hotel is a bit aged but in good condition & clean and comfortable.

6/10 Good

Great location
The location was excellent and very convenient. On arrival the hotel looks excellent and the staff were very nice and helpful. Once in the room it is different, the rooms are tired, very dated, and the shower is the worst shower I have ever had in my life and I stay at many hotels around the world. I know they are saying the hotel is getting renovated now but I heard that it has been ongoing since before covid and still has not started. I feel a hotel chain like this should have been renovated long ago with no excuses.
