10/10 Exceptional

Room was clean (although the daily housekeeping was pointless - just emptied the bins, cups and spoon was still dirty). Very warm, quiet room. Some furnishings worn but bed and pillows very comfortable. Building is unique but not a problem like mentioned in previous reviews. I didn't have any cause to eat or go to the bar so can't comment on that. Check in and out very friendly and efficient. Travelled alone and felt safe, I would definitely stay again

The hotel was ok. However, the breakfast needs improvement, better choice

Room were mentioned no smoking but still smell cigarette smoke in room, washing basin rusty Property and reception area seems rundown and doesn’t appealing to stay
Bharat, 1-night trip

8/10 Very good

Very basic room, but probably as would expect from a 3* hotel. Clean and bed was comfortable. It was also a quiet and cool room, being on the north side away from the road and the sun during a heat wave.
2-night trip

Facilities did not work, low standards of cleanliness, curtains falling apart. Soft bed and hard pillows that smelt. No lifts on my block and I was staying on 4th floor. Complicated room layout. The positive was that the area was quiet.
Bilma, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The hotel was well worn lots of fittings shabby, well worn, broken or loose. Set against that the sheets were clean, a decent breakfast was served and it was relatively cheap.

Nice big room, pretty dated, shower unusable, couldn't control temperature on extremely hot!!. Breakfast exceptable. Slept well. Reception staff, happy and welcoming.

The hotel is very dated. Needs a lot of investment.

I’ve stayed in Birmingham many time but this hotel takes the biscuits. It’s extremely run down and looks closer to the resemblance of flats within a run down council estate. The staff are extremely helpful and friendly though. The rooms are terrible.
Andrew, 1-night trip

The only issue was the noisy road and i know we can't help ambulances going past all night.

This has been an ideal place for a retreat, quiet place time to reflect upon my work and I have enjoyed their special English-full breakfast delicious food.

This hotel can best be described as a cross between a run down block of flats and a motel

8/10 Very good

A great stay at the Apollo Hotel (Hagley Rd.)

My room was clean & tidy, with quality bed linen and fluffy towels in the bathroom. In the bathroom the sanitary ware was fine, although the vertical rail that supported the detachable shower hose was detached at the top and needs refixing. Also the bath needs a rubber mat inside as there is nothing to stop guests slipping whilst showering. I slipped this morning but thankfully came to no harm. There is a TESCO Express next door to the Apollo hotel and a Boots Optician branch however there are no other shops within easy walking distance (that I found). The Apollo currently has only breakfast provision in-house but there is a great Chef & Brewer about a quarter of a mile down the Hagley Rd that my wife and I visited twice and thought was excellent. There are other eateries but we only tried the Premier Inn restaurant (used to be a Beefeater) which was bland and soulless with a restricted menu. There were only two staff on duty, so perhaps the less said the better. The waitress assured me that there are plans to reestablish a full Beefeater on the site, but till that happens I would give that restaurant a miss.
Peter, 3-night trip

8/10 Very good

Pleasantly suprised it was fine and we would stay there again if ever the situation arose
Janice, 1-night trip

We stopped here as we were going to the cricket at Edgbaston. Hotel is basic no frills accommodation but has lots of parking and was good vfm.

2/10 Poor

Never again

Worst hotel in the country and dirtiest, av been many places but this was worst than jail am sorry to say don’t stay here
1-night trip

2/10 Poor

I ended up not staying in the hotel as I felt unsafe. The lift had no lights in it, as a person staying alone at the hotel the accommodation blocks did not feel secure. The lock on the bedroom door was broken although it had a chain. I had to wash the cup before I could have a drink but then the kettle didn't work anyway. I would not recommend this hotel
Gillian, 1-night trip

4/10 Fair

This is a very dated hotel, the rooms are like chalets outside. It reminded me of the motels in America on CSI, the chain was broken on the front door which gave me anxiety all night. The decor and furniture inside is like walking into the 70's, i wouldnt even call this a hotel it's chalets like at Butlins, but worse. The only positive is that it was clean, there were stains on the pillow cases though.
Helen, 1-night trip

Worst hotel ever

Worst Hotel ever, hair all over the bed. Had to sleep in my own clothes as did not want to stay on the dirty bed clothes. The Shower was so dirty, I did not have one. Please refund me my money. Thank you
