Our first room was right over the street and was really noisy. Staff was very accommodating and moved our room with minimum hassle👍

Welcome to 1970
I stayed here as i had an early train from Union Station which is less than 5 minutes walk away. Olvera Street is even closer which is well worth a visit and Philippe The Original, which is fantastic, is just a coiple of minutes walk. That said, the whole area feels quite sketchy and unsafe at night. The hotel looks awful from the outside and is little better when you step in. My room was on the 4th floor and the corridors leading to it were dark and dreary. The room was spacious but very dark with worn out carpets, ancient furniture and little natural light. The bed was hard and uncomfortable and it got very cold during the night. The only positives were the decent shower and free, stong Wi-Fi.

Great location to catch the bus if you arr in town for a baseball game, union station is minutes from this location, also Olvera is close by. The hotel itself is decent, rooms are a bit outdated but has everything you need. The staff was friendly and helpful. The hotel has parking which is a plus. I would stay here again

4/10 Fair

When we arrived at the Metro Plaza we were impressed by the strength of the clerk because of her no nonsense attitude at throwing out an intruder who had come into the lobby to charge his phone. Then we trudged up to our room in the hottest hallways to the 4th floor, where the ice machine was broken and there was only a water stand dispensing hot and cold water. The room was clean, however the sink basin was broken, there was a hole in the wall where the handle hit the sheetrock, and there was no remote for our tv. My husband approached the downstairs clerk who told us the tv was inoperable but didn't offer any type of solution. The room felt very worn and the carpets were threadbare. I realize that the hotel is relatively inexpensive but I think we got considerably less than we paid for.

Closest to Union, Nice Staff, Clean but Dated
We choose the Metro Plaza because it is the nearest hotel to Union Station and we were arriving late at night. Just step out of the main exit of Union Station, walk uo ti Almeda street and turn right. You'll see a Chevron statiin a couple blocks away. The hotel is just feet away from there. The front desk staff were friendly and welcoming. They even offered us a room with 2 beds for no extra charge since we were 2 male travelors. Our room (305) was very large with fresh linens and clean bathroom. Finally, this was the most affordable hotel in the area. Now the cons: the area is rather stetchy at night with homeless & drug users across the street from the station; thus, walk on the right side of the street when heading to the hotel. The hotel is very very dated with worn carpet and tired decor. On our cross-country train trip (Zephyr, Coast Starlight, Southwest Chief), we stayed at the Crawford Hotel in Denver $500, the Hyatt in San Fran $350, and will be staying at the Intercontinental Chicago, so our standards are very high. To most of our fellow 1st class travelors this place might be a shock to their delicate sense. But it is a perfectly suitable utility room for a very brief stay, while waiting our departure today on the train.
