Why not spend a lazy afternoon at Scalpsie Bay Beach during your trip to Rothesay? Stroll along the waterfront or visit the monuments while you're in the area.
Rothesay is well known for its attractions such as Rothesay Ferry Terminal and Mount Stuart. This welcoming city has something for everyone including sights like Rosslyn Castle and Loch Fad within a scenic setting.
A pleasant town of Victorian houses around the bay, plenty of eateries, and ferry terminal right at its heart. Perfect base for exploring the rest of the island, which can be done in a day.

It was my first trip to Rothesay. There's loads of great beaches and walking in the area. Some of the bars in town don't feel totally friendly for solo female travellers, but that might just be me!

The Discovery Centre (opposite the hotel) is definitely worth a visit - especially the cinema: comfortable and modern technology in a wonderful Victorian building. Bute is worth a holiday visit in the summer, when the rest of Rothesay is open!

Views were terrific, town is slightly rundown, lots of closed shops. People very friendly

It was obvious from our visit that the island is starting to thrive again through business regeneration and visitors. The islanders are working hard to boost tourism and the renovation of the Glenburn Hotel is key. Keep going!
"It’s not the first time we have stayed and it won’t be the last. The staff are all so friendly and appreciative. It is so peaceful in the rooms & the hotel is beautifully maintained. Looking at the hotel from the water as we approach is always special. Thanx again."
"Extremely helpful and friendly staff. Great breakfast. Very welcoming of dogs. Lovely location on the loch.
Bathrooms need modernisation, but cleaned and fresh towels daily.
Would most definitely stay again."
"The hotel was class , looked dated , which i like , but the rooms were like wow , wouldn't expect going into a hotel which on the outside , and in the halls were like walking into the late 19th century the i went into a room a basic btw , and a beautiful mural of david bowie and just transformed it into modern, was such a wow factor , the staff were like family , we went to the pub about 3 mile away , and the boss was there , talking away as if we were family, ive never felt so like home but while away , i only came on here to book again and noticed it asked for a review, honestly , if you want the marriot or the hilton , (which lets be honest all loom the same) the you wont be happy , but if you want to walk into history and get to your room with a view , and the room transports you back , then this is it, i honestly loved this place that much i phoned up rough and asked for an extra night , the town is so welcoming , the taxi driver was class , the kebab shop was class , everyone was happy , and trust me i tried to annoy people , they just go with it , an amazing place and an amazing bunch of people xxx"
"We were rather unfortunate in that a drunk older couple were through the wall to us, shouting obscenities' and making a lot of noise. George, the general manager could not have handled it any better.
I would highly recommend. "
