"Beautiful views of the mountains and walkable distance to Matsushiro Castle Ruins. The location is a bit far from Nagano City so I takes a bus to get back to city for more dining and nightlife options. Breakfast buffet was great with a huge variety of japanese and western choices."

"The Lotte Arai is the best hotel for skiing and onsen. Super soft endless powder snow on the gorgeous mountain hills and the slopes were adventurous and super exciting. The expert++ slopes can be another surplus if you are expert level. The onsen is luxury level. Sitting in the hotel water with snow falling on your head, especially at Lotte's well groomed onsen is unforgettable. The food at the hotel is not luxury level and limited as the location is all on its own with the city being 20-30 mins...

"We enjoyed our stay. The highlight was the rock-lined outdoor onsen fed by a hot spring. As we soaked in the mineral bath, we looked out at the snow-covered pines and blue skys above. It was the best onsen experience of our entire three-week holiday. We were there using a cold snap; the common spaces were chilly but our room was comfortable."

"For my overnight trip to Nagano, my focus had always been to visit Togakushi Shrine for the giant cedar trees and Jigokudani Yaen Koen for the snow monkeys.
