2/10 Poor

Genuine 17th century experience
No one smiles in this place, you come the right place in St Christopher inn Edinburgh if you want to experiment what it’s like to live in genuine 17th century experience. It’s a shame there was no real kitchen or good spaces to relax or meet other travelers. the first floor chill out place/locker room has a microwave and a small full of rotten food fridge in the corner, no sink, no toaster, no Stove, and one single sofa chair for 4 floors hostel. I stayed in a six beds mix room with a bathroom, The upper corn of my bed had a spider web. The WIfi doesn’t work on my iPad. The hostel most rooms faced busy street, the noise can be bad, The elevator works sometimes, it doesn’t closed properly, it doesn’t stop if you need to go down between floors, you have to go up in order to go down. The locker has an old mechanical lock, the guest have to provide the middle size lock in order lock the locker, and it is very hard to operate, I saw my roommate spent a half hour on trying to lock his locker. The room locker is so small, You have to pay £2.50 for a small 20 inch carry on luggage in a room with lockers (free at other hostels in Edinburgh). I don’t know why the cleaning crew came in to empty the trash can at 10:30PM one night during my stay. The bathroom was filthy and disgusting. I informed the reception about it in the morning and when I returned late evening nothing had been done about it. I informed the reception again, two cleaning guys shown up, I had to shown them where

Staff were great and super friendly. Quite expensive for what the rooms are but that’s mainly because it was the Fringe featival. The puppy was a bonus!

Very small room. Had to duck in most of the room since it had a slanted ceiling. Shower was very moldy.

8/10 Very good

Bunk Beds 3 High
The rooms were to small to have 6 people in them. As far as Hostel’s go, it is not how many people or beds are in the room. It just depends on the layout. This one is terrible. Choose another provider other than St. Christopher’s if you can. I would choose TOC over these guys,

8/10 Very good

I thought this hostel was decently clean and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The beds were surprisingly comfortable, as well. My only negatives are things I wish I would've known before walking up 5 floors of stairs with my suitcase, then having to walk back down again. Hopefully this will save you the trip! 1) The lockers in the room are slightly too small for a hard carry-on suitcase, and the lockers don't come with locks. There is a separate luggage storage area on the 2nd floor (Make sure you have cash!! it's £2.50 per day). 2) On that note, you can buy a lock for £4 at the desk if you didn't bring your own. I just took out all my stuff from the suitcase and stacked it in the locker in my room, plenty of space for it. 2) Towels have to be rented at the desk for £4 if you didn't bring your own. Make sure you have your own toiletries as well. These are all things that are written on their site, but I usually don't check the site since Expedia usually has all the info written. Three people came huffing up the stairs after me and had the same realization, so I wasn't the only one in the dark! Otherwise, it's a good place for travelers staying a night or two, and their restaurant across the street is pretty good.
