A weekend was not long enough .
Relaxed atmosphere. Good service,Staff pleasant and polite. Clean and comfortable. Food very good with freshly cooked breakfasts. Not far from beach or shops. Own carpark but slightly tricky amongst the RSJs if busy.

2/10 Poor

We chose this hotel as it offered free overnight parking. However, hubby needed a buggy to get about which are banned at the hotel. The lift isn’t what I’d call completely H&S safe. No door to the front and as it moves floors quite unsafe. The rooms unbearably hot. Even with windows open and a fan on all night. The beds uncomfortable and I felt like I was falling out due to one side collapsing on the mattress. The rooms are very small. The two of us couldn’t sit at the little table as not enough room and had to walk around the bed side ways. The shower didn’t work properly. Breakfast ok. The plastic around the black pudding was left on when cooked. Scrambled egg was watery and grape stems found in the fresh fruit. Certainly not worth the price. All the meals were over priced. Then there’s the so called over sensitive fire alarm that goes off at the drop of a hat. No one came to tell us all was well. So could have burnt to death. They wouldn’t care. When we complained, the general manager tried to make out we were being over sensitive. The staff do the best they can. But not really bothered as they roll there eyes thinking, here we go this is another one moaning. Save your money and go to a b&b.

Not worth the money
I had booked a single room- £130 for one night. Hotel room I stayed in was incredibly dated. Black mould in shower/bath, general disrepair through out room. Pillows were wafer thin, head sinking through to mattress despite using 2 pillows. The night porter was very helpful when arriving late and the breakfast was lovely (despite them forgetting the toast that was ordered). Could be a lovely hotel if the rooms were better maintained.

I enjoyed my stay at Palm Court, however because of age of the building, which gives it its charm and unique character, not having air conditioning made my room extremely hot and humid. The tower fan in the room was ineffective. In winter I can imagine its very cosy, but my stay was during a warm period.

8/10 Very good

First the bad bits, our room was very confined and hot as hades. Even on a cold day, the room was unbearably hot, and took 2 days with a fan on, and windows open to get it liveable. With the windows open (4th floor) cooking smells from the kitchens permeated the room. These rooms are in desperate need of air con. The good, public areas are very good, especially the dining and breakfast rooms. Breakfast was epic, with choices I have never seen at any hotel anywhere. E.g. Smoked Haddock and poached egg, crumpets scrambled egg and salmon, boiled eggs with soldiers. Brilliant and with great table, not buffet service. On the basis of breakfast alone I would stay here again, but only if they can sort the room overheating out.

The one thing what let them down was the 10 percent vouchers they give out in check in for the Resturant & Longe food. The duty manager when checking out and I was paying said you cannot have the 10 percent off food because it’s up to us to hand in to staff when ordering! Like I quoted the staff never got you to sign for food or give you the chance to accept these vouchers. No good blaming the customers and saying it’s too late to take off when I’m paying my bill! They need to train the staff to do there job better and maybe the 10 percent would get taking from their food bill. Did not like the duty managers attitude and cleverness with me when it’s not my fault! I did not budge and told her this, train your staff better to take orders & take the vouchers off!

A gem & not your impersonal chain hotel.
A lovely gem of a hotel, from a different era, but in a really good way. All staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, everything was spotless and looked loved. If you’re after a modern hotel, with all mod cons, then not here, but for charm, and just gentle loveliness, a great place. Minor gripes - bottle of water and shower gel / shampoo not replaced when empty. Shower one which was either boiling or ice cold on a millimetre turn. But genuinely minor & did not, in any way, dampen the stay. A highlight - breakfast. Local produce, cooked perfectly.
