Great staff

The hotel/rooms are very dated and tired but……the bed linen, towels and bathroom were clean and fresh. The staff are amazing, friendly, chatty and went above and beyond to accommodate our stay. Great breakfast too

The Russell Hotel

The Russell Hotel is a good place to stay very close to Royal Tunbridge Wells amenities and attractions. We stayed here because we were going on the Spa Valley Railway Cheese Train on the Saturday afternoon and the hotel was an close enough to walk everywhere.

4/10 Fair

90’s throwback

This was a 90’s throwback. The decor hasn’t been touched since sponging paint and patterned borders. It needs SO much work. The guy on reception was clearly unhappy in his job and lacked customer service skills. The breakfast was ok but I had cold tea and no selection of pastries. The room was however very big and the location is ideal. I paid over £200 for 2 nights .. this is a shocking price for s very run down hotel. No lift access either so up 4 flights of stairs with a bad leg . I could go on about it but won’t. Definitely won’t return unless it has a makeover and a new receptionist
Wallpaper in bathroom peeling off
90’s throw back phone lol shocking
Remote for TV broken with dirty cellotape

10/10 Exceptional

Clean and comfortable hotel for a short break visiting family. Convenient for town and shops, as well as green spaces. Very pleasant and helpful staff. Would definitely visit again.
Ian, 2-night trip

8/10 Very good

Great breakfast, helpful staff, acceptable accommodation, good ‘walk in shower’. No issues.
Simon, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

Basic, handy location

Staff helpful. Room in attic, so no windows that could open and blinds not great. No lift. Lot of noise from next room's bathroom fan. Furniture tired. Reasonably clean. Breakfast good. Chosen for parking which I obtained, but is very limited. Handy location for the centre of town.

8/10 Very good

Hotel was friendly and functional with rather tired room in need of an update. But everything worked and there was free parking. Excellent breakfast.
M, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

The Russell hotel is clean and tidy with everything needed for a short overnight stay. The property is an older building which is in good condition and well maintained. Breakfast was freshly cooked with good service

8/10 Very good

Very friendly staff. Needs a bit of modernisation but served me well for a night out in town. Free parking and included breakfast was useful.

I had a warm room on the top floor with a fantastic walk-in shower

A good stay

I had a room in the annex and after staying at this hotel numerous times before, this was one of the better rooms. Updated bathroom, although the rest of the hotel is very dated. It was clean, the bed was comfortable and the man on the check in desk was very helpful and pleasant.
John, 1-night trip

Enjoyable overnight stay.

The Russell Hotel is close to town and we would have no hesitation in returning on any future visits to Tunbridge Wells. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful and we were lucky enough to be able to enjoy free parking. Our bedroom and bathroom were spacious and clean. Breakfast being included was a definite plus and tasted delicious.
Pamela, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

This is a lovely old Victorian building, quote central in Tunbridge Wells, the rooms were small, but clean and warm. The staff were all very nice and friendly, accommodating and helpful. The breakfast was good, nothing fancy but nice nonetheless. The bed wasn't very comfortable and the TV was tiny. The whole place seemed somewhat faded and a bit tatty, definitely very dated (the bathrooms and furnishings especially), but it was adequate for a couple of nights.

Enjoyable overnight stay

This is the second time we have stayed at the Russell Hotel and once again found the staff most pleasant and extremely helpful. Our room, bed linen & towels were spotlessly clean and the inclusive breakfasts were delicious. Being so close to town, it is convenient if you wish to see a show at The Assembly Hall Theatre, browse the shops, meet friends or just explore Tunbridge Wells in general. Would have no hesitation in returning, should we visit this historic town in the future.

Pleasant stay

Very welcoming staff. Breakfasts were very well cooked and plenty for us. We had a large accessible room, the only drawback was to get to the room there were a few steps which I found difficult and this room would not be suitable for a wheelchair user. I believe there many be other accessible rooms available.
Richard, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

Good but basic budget accommodation

Basic but adequate accommodation for the price. On site parking was free but limited and fairly tight spaces given a few works vans present. Good breakfast with excellent staff. Some areas require some sprucing up or maintenance. Nothing that could not be fixed with paint or varnish. Some rooms could be a little noisy due to proximity to a busy road.
Kenneth, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

Dated and worrying fire escape

The decore is very dated. However the most worrying thing is the lack of escape routes. We were on the top floor with only one staircase-escape route and you were so high up there was escaping from the window.
