Great location walking distance to everything
Great location we could walk to long street that had all the bars and restaurants. Also the rooftop bars were close and walking distance as well. There are a lot of homeless people around. But I found that’s in every downtown area and was in the same in Johannesburg. They do not bother you and at no time did we feel unsafe. We had a full kitchen with dishes. The only negative was that our washer and dryer was not working properly so we were unable to wash our clothes.
We stayed for 7 nights
Parking was easy and 75 rand a day
WiFi was great always accessible
Restaurant in the building was reasonably priced and food was ok.
I cannot say enough about the location of this hotel close to everything 10 mins drive to table mountain
10 mins drive to VA waterfront.

Nice to stay...but,
Friendly and attentive staff, well maintained property, unfortunately lots of vagrants in the area, does not feel safe to walk to a restaurant for dinner even though there are lots of options less than a couple hundred meters away.
Time for Business, the City and Government to work at solving the issue.

Great hidden gem on the City Bowl!
Loved the spacious rooms for a family trip. It is also excellent in terms of location. Breakfast and dinner spots downstairs and a healthy supermarket with everything under the sun opposite the front doors. Parking is available but would have been great if the room key worked to open the boom instead of needing the guards to open and close the gate. It is relatively safe but did feel hesitant to walk around late at night in this location. Lots of tourist attractions nearby!

We stayed in a studio room. Overall, a great stay. Clean and friendly staff. The only complaint would be the bathroom which always floods the whole bathroom floor after every shower.

Overall we had a great stay at Mandela Rhodes. The rooms are spacious and come equipped with everything we needed. Service was great, and the room was always clean. We did, however, find the bed to be very, very uncomfortable and very small. For reference, I’m 5’7 and my feet were hanging off the bed the whole time. Also, we had several issues with the shower and sink leaking. These problems were fixed quickly, but it was uncomfortable spending 6 nights in a wet bathroom.

The only place to stay in Cape Town
Upon arriving at Mandela Rhodes Place, we notice that the lobby looked more like an office building lobby than a hotel and were a bit worried about our choice. Those worries were quickly put to rest upon entering our room. The room was more of an apartment than a hotel room, which was perfect for the three of us. Some wanted to stretch out and relax while others needed to work. There were two large bedrooms with comfortable beds along with two and a half baths. Each bedroom had a tv and there was a large tv in the living room. The bathrooms were plenty large with good water pressure in the showers. There was a well-appointed kitchen ~ even a washer. There was a kitchen bar and a conference table dining/work table. The living room was large and had a wonderful view of the mountain. There was even a nice balcony with a table and chairs, though the weather was a bit cold for that.
The hotel is located within a very short walk to many attractions and restaurants. And the City Sightseeing hop-on hop-off bus is just minutes away.
It is not the very comfortable room or excellent location that put Mandela Rhodes so high on our list - it was the staff. They knew we were on a celebratory trip and provided us with delightful welcoming treats. Anything we asked for or needed, they were right there ~ going above and beyond. We could not be more thankful for the kindness, consideration, and thoughtfulness of all of the staff.
For us this is the only place to stay in Cape Town

An upgrade to repeat
Thanks to hotels.com, the room was upgraded to a two bedroom apartment with a fully equipped kitchen. Room for four people. The hotel's location is central with numerous restaurants and supermarkets in easy walking distance.

The hotel is located in the heart of Cape Town, near to the judicial buildings. Walking distance to the outdoor markets for curios and restaurants and coffee shops. The only thing that I did not like was the hallway layout leading to the guest apartments. If the architects of this building were trying to replicate a prison then they nailed it! The apartments have windows that look out to the hallway and then the hallway looks out to the exterior. Then the hallway on higher floors are on a balcony where you can look down to the lower floors, like you would in a prison. This did not feel inviting at all. But once you enter into the apartment, the layout and decor is very warm and cozy. And the bedroom was very comfortable. Our particular unit had an amazing view of table mountain.
