Melbourne Hotels

Vivacious, fast paced, and dynamic, Australia’s second largest city is easily one of its most vibrant. An attractive urban landscape of buzzing thoroughfares and leafy boulevards, you'll see prim Victorian architecture existing alongside gleaming modern marvels. A hub of characterful neighborhoods, stylish haunts, and world class cultural offerings, its shiny cosmopolitan image has been well earned. With a simmering festival calendar to boot, it’s of little wonder that Melbourne is one of the most happening cities in the world.

Things to see in Melbourne

For some nocturnal glitz and glam, don your glad rags and visit the famous Crown Casino, a decadent entertainment complex twinkling beside the Yarra River. Crowned with its towering high rise, here you can try your luck at everything from blackjack to baccarat. Sports fans will want to make a beeline for the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground, home of the Melbourne Cricket Club. The centerpiece of the 2006 Commonwealth Games, the stadium is also the site of the National Sports Museum. Take a tram to Collins Street, Melbourne’s best known thoroughfare. Lined with trees and antiquated architecture, here you’ll find the city’s trendiest offerings, whether you’re looking to eat, drink or play. The “Paris End” is a real lure for shopaholics, with its ritzy collection of designer boutiques. If you’re more about bagging a bargain, join the bustle at the Queen Victoria Market. A 17 acre sensory overload, here you’ll find everything you could imagine and more.

Hotels in Melbourne

There’s a huge variety of hotels in Melbourne with something to suit everyone’s budget. Whether you prefer an ornate and classical Victorian gem or a sleek and contemporary tower, those with a taste for the finer things will have a particularly difficult time choosing. Here high rise luxury comes with roof top pools, spa centers, and onsite casinos and nightclubs. Sumptuous suites drip with decadence, while pampering service makes you feel like royalty. The more modest hotels in Melbourne aim to please too, and spare none of the creature comforts. Whether it’s a rental apartment, a popular chain, or a locally owned B&B, expect comfort, service and style.

Where to stay

If you’re looking for some seaside R&R alongside the cosmopolitan buzz, a hotel in Melbourne’s St Kilda suburb is the perfect choice. Just 3.5 miles from the bright lights of the Central Business District, nearby attractions include the historic Luna Park funfair and the fragrant St Kilda Botanic Gardens. Melbourne’s chilled out café culture runs strong in the South Yarra – Prahran area. Quirky and cool, it's home to Chapel Street – nicknamed the ‘longest catwalk in the Southern Hemisphere’ for its volley of designer boutiques. Leafy and historic South Melbourne offers eclectic shopping and dining. The host of the Australian Grand Prix, here you’ll find Albert Park Lake.

How to get to Melbourne

The city’s main gateway is Melbourne Airport, just northwest of the city center. With direct flights to destinations all around the world, it’s a particularly well connected hub. Once you’ve landed, getting into the city is a breeze. The Skybus operates regular services from the airport straight into the Central Business District, terminating at Southern Cross Station. Journeys take around 20 minutes. If you’re heading to South Melbourne or St Kilda however, the Frankston and Peninsula Airport Shuttle offers an alternative pre-book shuttle from the airport. For a no fuss door to door service, taxis are a more expensive option.
