Wonderful stay, great staff.
The staff make this Hotel an amazing experience but it is also very clean and the cafe is great too. It is also in a great location for shops and restaurants. My only mistake was to not realise it has no beds and you are on the floor on a traditional Japanese futon. I found this incredibly uncomfortable and couldn't sleep, even though I asked for more futons and extra pillows. Apart from that, my stay here was very enjoyable and I would recommend it, as long as you don't mind sleeping on the floor.

A hidden gem in a quiet neighborhood
This hotel was amazing. It's in a quaint quiet neighborhood. We felt like we were in Japan in the 1950's.The Tokyo Metro is a 5 minute walk and Ueno Park is a 15 minute walk. There are all kinds of mom and pop restaurants and coffee houses right in this beautiful neighborhood. The staff are awesome! They speak very good English and were very helpful. This is a Japanese style hotel, which means you sleep on futons on the floor. We had no problem with this the first 3 nights (we were there for 7 nights) but from day 4 onward I was a little sore. Also the room is small, so not a lot of space to put your luggage. There is no private bathroom or shower. They have communal bathrooms for both men and women on every floor. The shower is coed, with four private shower rooms that you can go in and lock. If a woman is concerned about this, they have the 5th floor shower for women only. They have a restaurant on site with 24 hour service. The food was excellent. I had scrambled eggs every morning that were delicious and only cost 200 yen! They have a bar, with beer from all over the world. They have a laundry room on site that is very affordable (detergent is included). Check in took less than 2 minutes. The wifi was good. They have a free phone they offer with GPS and local calling. We really enjoyed the 7-11 store very close by. They have all kinds of street food that were around 100 yen and it was fun snack on everything as you walked to the Metro. I highly recommend this hotel!

Good 6.0
Good option for some.
Cons:The futons are extremely thin. I was having shoulder issues that made me choose this hostel, because to have my own single bed(mat) would at least give me room to sleep without having to share bed with my boyfriend and risk crushing my painful shoulder. Other hotels made getting two singles much more expensive or were totally unavailable in our price range. However , I was also experiencing hip pain which made it extremely difficult to get up and down from the ground(bed). I am 48 , not elderly yet, but having a rough go of it this year. My boyfriend wasn't thrilled about the wafer thin futon pads either, but he didn't struggle like me. We used every available extra pad and comforter in the room in order to try to improve comfort. The staff did say we could request more, but no matter what we added to the bed, it didnt seem to make much difference. As others mentioned, the rooms are incredibly small. The pictures don't quite capture it. I actually thought the tatami rooms looked charming, with the little table and cushions. In reality the table was a shaky plastic table and there was no cushion.I used a spare pillow to sit on when digging through bags. I used the bare shelves(from where we removed every spare piece of bedding) as my closet. Having to get up to turn the light off at the entry door was irritating. Shared bathroom was fine. Pros: most of the staff and neighborhood.Filtered/hot water dispensers. Ability to use dishes for own food.Scrambled eggs

Very Good 8.0
Overall okay, but you could find better.
The place wasn’t too far from everything we wanted to visit so that was great. The closest metro is about a 10minutes walk. The service was great, the staff was very friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making aure that we have the best stay possible. They also offer you a bunch of free stuff like slippers, toothbrush, razors, you can even rent a smartphone for free with internet and all. The breakfast however is not at all worth it. If you think that you should get their breakfast included for 5-10$ more, don’t. It’s literally bread, butter & jam. Oh and you can get some coffee & 2 types of tea. It’s definitely not worth the price because you can go out on the street and find some places to eat that will cost you the same but at least they offer REAL food. The bathrooms are okay, they’re not too dirty, the only thing is since it is a cheaper place, it does attract a crowd that don’t do things as the Japanese do. They don’t really leave things as clean as others so that’s not too fun. Some of the guests might leave their hair and their stuff around. I’ve been to other hotels in Japan and it’s not like that everywhere. So if cleanliness is your biggest concern, maybe this hotel won’t be working for you. I will say though that for the price, it’s not that bad especially since it’s conveniently located. If you want to experience the traditional futton bed you should definitely give it a try at least once in your life.
