The only reason that we wouldn't give Retiro one of the highest recommendations we have ever given any place we've ever stayed is that the charming gentlemen who run this amazing place are moving on from hosting guests. We consider ourselves lucky to have gotten in under the wire and wish them the best as they start the next chapter.

This bed and breakfast was wonderful; a peaceful and beautiful property close to Nelson and the Abel Tasman park. The hosts were exceptionally welcoming and served up fabulous breakfasts and conversations, while also offering the privacy to relax and rest on our long journey through New Zealand.

This was a great find. Victor and Robert made our stay fun and interesting with a tour of their vineyard and animals. The setting is beautiful very rural. Everymorning they joined us for a chat and it felt very nice to be so welcomed. Would love to visit again

Charming setting with wonderful hosts. The combination of clean, comfortable and private accommodations surrounded by gardens, wine vineyard, treehouse, sheep, alpacas, chickens, walking trails and food made for a very special experience. One of our best stays of our two weeks in New Zealand. Highly recommend.

Excellent and accommodating host, quiet country environment with llamas, ducks birds and a cat or two for company while enjoying the grounds. An average 15 minute drive to town.

Paradise Lost, Paradise Found
Extremely cozy and rustic place in a secluded location in countryside next to Nelson, we loved this place. Excellent host and breakfast served, every detail thought of, the room makes you not want to leave it.

Nelson area gem!
By the time we rolled up into the Retiro Park Lodge, after several days in New Zealand already, I had had quite a bit of beautiful scenery. I yearned for something more than that, something that would set our trip to New Zealand apart. Victor and Robbert managed to provide such gracious hospitality, elegant accommodations, and good company that our whole vacation in the country was escalated to "best ever." Retiro Park Lodge was warmth, comfort, and humor. I never would have believed that I could book a room and come away feeling more like a friend than a customer. The house and grounds are beautiful and boundless. My husband says the nights we stayed there were the only nights in the two weeks we were in New Zealand that he really slept well. I was (pathetically) grateful to finally have some good, free wifi. Victor gave us many very useful tips for our excursions, things we had not picked up from the travel books or websites. Robbert brought us with him when he went to feed Miguelito, the baby llama. Delicious breakfast was served in the greenhouse. Really, a delightful experience on all counts. I can't rave about this place enough. And I am a picky person!

Unique & Amazing Experience
For one night of our honeymoon, my wife and I stayed at Retiro Park Lodge and our experience there was amazing. The two owners, Victor and Robbert, could not have been more friendly, welcoming and helpful. We stayed in the Barn room, which was very comfortable, clean and private. The hosts made us a farm-fresh breakfast (one of the best we've ever had), shared a bottle of wine that Victor had produced in his winery on-premise and gave us a private tour of the farm, winery, animals and grounds. We traveled for three weeks in Australia and New Zealand and Retiro Park Lodge was our favorite place to stay. When we head back to NZ, we'll be sure to come back to Retiro.

Amazing place and hosts
This place exceeded our expectations by far. The place is gorgeous located in a beautiful farm. The hosts could not be friendlier and offered us all the wine we could drink. They prepared a wonderful Christmas dinner and amazing breakfast served in style in a very cozy greenhouse-like cottage. They have vineyards, alpacas, ponies, etc. on the grounds and they make their own wine, which is very tasty. The hosts felt like close friends, more than just hosts, and they went out of their way to ensure we had a great time. One of the best places we've ever stayed in and we have traveled all over the world.

Wow!!!!
Our stay at Retiro was truly the highlight of our entire trip. Victor and Robbert were such gracious hosts. The Barn was immaculate and the furnishings were set up with an amazingly artistic sense of comfort and detail. The animals and grounds are amazing (we enjoyed the rooster wake up call!). The breakfast was tasty and our hosts were very accommodating. Robbert and Victor have established a wonderful place at Retiro and we highly recommend it to anyone who wants to be off the beaten path, but minutes away from town.
