Looking for a place to sleep then it’s ideal, comfortable bed, good shower, lots of parking, quiet. Basic accommodation and a little tired but pretty clean. The pub does good food but closes pretty early during the week.

Comfortable and friendly.
Country pub come hotel, nice friendly staff, good evening meal in pub, room comfortable and clean, plenty of towels and good bed, heatinf works well, only 1 downside they are unable to do any breakfasts which was a pity but not a major problem.

All excellent just didn't have the atmosphere I was expecting in the pub (that could be me) The views were really nice apart from the tire place across the road

4/10 Fair

Mattress was very uncomfortable - could feel all the springs through the lining. No breakfast available. Other meals limited. Shower cubicle not cleaned. Overall, won't be going back.

Getting there.
Small room with low beams. Clean and plenty of towels. Attached pub good pub dinner but non cooked breakfast options limited and therefore pricey. Cooked breakfast was good. Looks like they are updating and trying hard. Free plentiful parking.

Overall the staff were okay. Shower was leaking when switched on and the door to the shower was not shutting tied so some water leaked out on floor or stand towel.

Room was clean and a good size. Remote for TV had no batteries. Bathroom had mould. Property generally a bit run down.

2/10 Poor

Disappointed
Not what we were expecting. The service area was covered in peeling wall paper, selotape and almost non existent paintwork. One firedoor remained propped open with a fire hydrant throughout our 3 day stay. Our room and bathroom had long term dust and mould and the toilet seat was broken. Evening meal menu was from commercial pre-prepared frozen packets and on arrival we were advised that the hotel does not offer any form of breakfast. No mention of that in the on-line booking blurb. The worst selection we have made for many a long year.

6/10 Good

Firstly the manager and her family were lovely. I did find the shower could have been a lot cleaner and the mattress was very uncomfortable. The facilities being above a pub/restaurant were excellent. I was taken back slightly after finding out it had been noted as a haunted hotel which I was unaware about, however once I got past that I did have a laugh with the manager and decided to stay anyway. I do think maybe it would be good to inform people in advance of this somehow as I was away with work and was desperate to sleep. Slightly overpriced in my opinion as I do travel a lot and in comparison to other places it didn’t warrant the £54 a night. Definitely needing a revamp as the wallpaper in the hallways was also falling off visibly not a good look and as I said the mattress definitely needs changing. I’m Not sure I would stay again but the manager and her family were very nice and welcoming all the same. This is an honest review and if your into the supernatural I would definitely recommend.

Traditional inn conveniently located
We need a place to stay the night on our way to East Somerset Railway and Longleat, and the Highwayman Inn provided exactly what we needed. It is reasonably easy to find and to far off the road. The pub was buzzing on Friday evening, with children birthday parties as well locals coming for food and drink. Staff are friendly and the food is good. Our room was very spacious but a little tired. Bed was a little too soft (but then I have a bad back, so hyper-sensitive to these things). Bathroom was good size but there was mildew and signs of damp near the window. The wardrobe was a small and did not have any usable hangers. The pub is closed in the morning (so no breakfast) but a kettle with a good selection of teas is provided. All in all, if a no-frills traditional inn is what you are after, this is it.

2/10 Poor

The worst experience we’ve ever had ever
this must be the worst experience we have ever had in a hotel, really was very poor. We got there about 4 pm and we knew we had to get up early in the morning about 4 am to go to the Show ground for the Shepton Mallet Antiques Fair. We ordered some food, including a medium rare steak and when it came, it was as well done as you’ve ever seen one, it looked like it just came out of the deep fryer dripping with oil and obviously frozen and tasted like rubber. I hate complaining so I had a little bit of it and couldn’t possibly eat it. The chef spends most of his time playing the Fruit Machine and sitting in the Bar area. I thought it couldn’t get any worse and then I went up to the room, the number of the room is number one. We went to bed, early and about 1:30 am we hear this loud thundering sound that woke us both immediately, it sounded like machinery but you couldn’t possibly sleep through it. It was so loud and it went on after that but not as loud as the initial Bang. I am warning you not to stay in that hotel and if you do do not book room one. We could smell the scent of Urine when we first walked into the room and I wish I never booked it. We had stayed there before many years ago and it wasn’t like this. I can honestly say this is the worst experience. We both have ever had, the hotel is noisy too and I advise anybody that reads this. Please hear my words and Avoid this place no matter how bad it is.
