We were accommodated for very well, and we found this to be the better hotel out of the 4 we stayed in over our week trip doing the NC500. It’s not exactly the Ritz but it’s clean, comfortable and cosy. In a decent location (not much to do in the town but it was nice and quiet). Would stay here again if we were near the area in a heartbeat!

8/10 Very good

Clean room, comfortable bed, hotel a little dated but staff friendly enough. Breakfast cooked to order so be prepared to wait a little. Restaurant closed, bar meals choice of 3 main meals, fish, scampi and chicken burger. Had the fish and it was terrible but charged restaurant prices, ate elsewhere for rest of stay.

Interesting place, clean and cheap
The hotel was a grand place in its time, its a bit tired and could do with a make over. The staff were pleasant and food was very nice, the evening meal menu was good how, however, and this could be my mis understanding ! I did not realise the menu was a set 3 course so having just one main and being charged for a starter and desert I didnt want was a little off putting. That aside for the cost which inclueds breakfast its good value.

NC500
Friendly helpful staff and a Nice full breakfast. Hotel is a bit dated, it was clean and inc towels n toiletries so no complaints. There is Parking on site and a petrol station to hand next door. Easy location on route NC500. We’d be happy to stay again should we be in the area.

Murthu hotel Thurso September stay
Our stay was good, great breakfast. Receptionist was not overly friendly or forthcoming g with information. The property is old but internally well maintained, however could do with the external windows cleaning

Tired of Thurso
The hotel was well placed and free parking available nearby. The room was clean but rather dated. The bed was comfortable and the shower good. Our window overlooked the street so there was street noise through to midnight which was a little intrusive. The breakfast was good although the service and access to the self service parts of the breakfast a little chaotic. Overall, the place was in need of some investment and refurbishment. The hotel wasn't as bad as some of the reviews I have subsequently read but it wouldn't be my first choice when I'm next in Thurso.

A bygone era
Like going back to the seventies, and not upgraded since. Clean bed linen, clean bathroom, clean room. Breakfast standard fare. We were on the Scotland 500 cycle and it served its purpose for a good night sleep, but no frills and thd hotel needs some major investment to bring it up to modern day standards

Please Don't Stay Here
I stay in a lot of budget hotels travelling with my work but this one was the worst I have stayed in, as soon as we arrived the receptionist was appoligising for everything, no lift, sorry your room is so far away but we are fully booked, book by who? DHS or asylum seekers I guess, only good point as we were carrying out cases up the stairs as no lift a suited man offered to help us, the room was tiny, the double bed was tiny, the pillows were like a cotton bud put inside a pillow case, there was no slip mat for the shower, 1980 style of furnishing and decor, the mattress was like a slab of concrete to sleep on, people walking the corridors and slamming doors from just after 5am, all in all couldn't wait to get out of this place, give this place a big swerve

8/10 Very good

The stay was fine, quiet and a comfortable bed. Breakfast was okay, though only ate an evening meal in there once, finding better place the other night. Thurso is not that interesting, and not a place for holidaying just for trips to John O'Groats and the Orkneys or for the NC500 tour

8/10 Very good

The hotel could have been a lot better, I certainly would not say it was a 3-star hotel. The welcome and check-in was very good and helpful as was the service. The menu was extremely poor and very limited as was the drinks at the bar with only 1 pump of draught beer in 4 being on. The decor and furniture were dated as was the door locks, ours wouldn't lock at all, with keys still being used. The hotel was very clean, but as I said at the start could be a lot better and needs money spending on it. And before I finish and forget sinage is required for where the car park is as we got conflicting directions from staff and guests.
