Need an upgrade to exterior. Otherwise it was a great experience. Wills be better when Pandemic is gone and resteraunts can open again.

This property was due for renovations about 3 years ago but the pandemic hit. They are planning a huge renovation now and you can tell they are in the recovery phase of the pandemic. We love this resort but could tell the pandemic hurt them.

Great spot to enjoy all of Kona, especially Manta diving and snorkeling right off the resort.

It was too bad the restaurant service was so hit and miss. We had heard great things about rays and it was closed. Plus one day our room didn’t get cleaned so at that price - not really acceptable.

The front desk staff was very nice and helpful during check in and check out. We did have an issue with lack of clean towels available. It got to the point where we asked for extra towels and had to wait an hour for them without so much as an apology. We even got pool towels instead of bath towels. The pricing of the food in the on-site restaurants was a bit on the high side even for Hawaii (and I live on Oahu). The Valet staff were excellent. The pool staff (helping us reserve umbrellas)were excellent as well.

Best resort/hotel I have stayed at. Staff was super super friendly and my stay super enjoyable. Resort is amazing everywhere you go. Super clean all over the resort and it has everything you can think of. Rooms are super specious and super clean.

6 nights at Outrigger

Beautiful but older resort. Rooms were just so-so, though the bed was very comfortable. We had a view of the luau area - which was very beautiful and quiet. The resort wasn't in 'full swing' because of COVID but had one restaurant and one (pool) bar open. The grounds of the resort we gorgeous and the location was great.

2/10 Poor

We had a horrible experience. First, I slipped and smacked my nose on some wet stairs on my first day. There was blood everywhere and I was very out of it, and security came to “check on me” but made my boyfriend feel like they were questioning HIM as if he had done something to me! Not cool. Then there was a mixup with the valet and even though they gave me a business card to book my own taxi (they said they couldn’t help) they DID book a car and when both showed up the valet got IN MY FACE telling me I was wrong and I had to pay for it (even IF I was in the wrong, that is NOT the way to treat your guests). On our last day, at 8:30am security came to the door and pulled us out of our room, locked the room, and escort us down to the lobby because my card has declined. My bank flagged fraudulent charges so a quick call to them cleared it up and by the time we made it down to the lobby the card was perfectly fine. It was BEYOND unnecessary for them to come yank us out of our room at 8:30 in the morning!!! So rude and it was a quick and easy solve that did not require that kind of disrespect and embarrassment. I have no clue what these people were thinking but I have NEVER been treated like that before. Definitely will not be returning. Oh and the main restaurant is closed so food options are limited and the closest shopping center is a good 20-30 min walk.

4/10 Fair

Location was nice, but this is not a “Full-Service” Resort. During the week there was no lunch or dinner. Literally no food except the HoloHolo market which is outsourced and the staff in the HoloHolo are terrible. Partially a woman named Lala and an older woman who kept telling me that she couldn’t charge the room except ever other employee was able to charge to room. She just didn’t want to make the extra effort. The food at the bar and the restaurant (which was only Open 2 out of 6 nights I was there) was terrible and expensive. Service was great. Marie and Leana were amazing. Their kindness made it better that my “Farfalle pasta with garlic cream sauce and grilled chicken” was literally 2 Lean Cuisines warmed up on their plastic trays and put on a nice plate. The chicken was that rib meat chicken that isn’t even the right texture. I will say, the property is amazing. I loved the Mantas at night, the beautiful sunsets, and it’s location relative to all other locations on the big island. That was good. I just wish the service and amenities were better. As another example is, the toilet was one of those toilets that has the industrial flusher you see in a middle school lol. I actually didn’t mind that but this is advertised as a “4-Star, Full Service Resort and Spa” which is kind of a joke. I would stay there again, but only If they charged the price of a Motel 6. Ok, fine, a embassy suites or something that you get on a quick business trip.

Pretty and clean outside but feels outdated. Rooms felt old & bathroom overall felt very outdoors like. During our stay all the bars and dining closed without notice but did offer free basic continental. We were told that out would remain that way for the rest of our stay due to short staff, so that was a challenge especially if you wanted to hang by that pool all day. More staff needed

Great property and when we come back, we will def stay there! The staff and the resort amenities are awesome. The rooms are older and need some updating, but besides that, the location is great and the property is beautiful! 10 out of 10.

For reference, the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa is now the Outrigger Kona Resort and Spa. Our check in date was 8/26, the official name change occurred 8/25. No one from Expedia, Sheraton, or Outrigger reached out to us to let us know that a name change had occurred. The signs were all changed to Outrigger and did not even say "previously Sheraton", so we were really confused upon arrival. An email, phone call or any type of communication should have occurred. Aside from that big hiccup, the hotel was as to be expected. As stated by previous reviewers, the grounds are beautiful but the rooms are dated. They have that clean but musty smell that kind of hits you when you enter, could definitely do with some updating. Only the pool bar and the cafe were open during our stay, which wasn't a problem since we had a car and planned to eat outside of the hotel anyway. Location wise, it's far from most places we wanted to go, but it worked out since it was right in between Captain Cook and Kailua Kona, which made it a 15 minute to either spots. A car is definitely needed since there are very few food options nearby. We did like that the night snorkeling with Manta Rays was a quick 5 minute walk from the room. I'm not sure if the hotel was operating on limited capacity but it wasn't crowded at all, which was nice, everyone kept their distance and seemed to be following Covid protocols.

Beautiful view and pool hour were open until 10pm. This gives you time to enjoy the pool because during the day time, you are out and about on excursions and activities.
