Mittelberg Hotels

Mittelberg sits within the Austrian Alps, close to the German border, and this small town is home to some world class skiing with modern facilities. During the winter months you are almost certain to enjoy thick, powdery snow conditions, and when the weather gets warmer it's the clear lakes and lush green scenery that brings visitors to the area. With the tall Gruenten mountain towering over the town, you feel close to nature, with breathtaking scenery all year round.

Things to see

There are around 40 kilometres of ski trails throughout the Mittelberg area, and 3 different ski lifts, including 1 for family groups. Reach the top of the powdery slopes and you can enjoy downhill skiing, snowboarding, or tobogganing, with plenty of space even in the winter season. For those who want a more demanding physical challenge, there are Nordic ski trails, with the longest route taking you 9 kilometres around the Grüntensee lake, which is frozen and sparkling in the winter months. Ski season runs from early December until the first week of April, with long opening hours at the busiest times so you can enjoy plenty of time on the slopes. In the warmer months, the trails become ideal for hiking, with historic buildings and stone monuments along the way, or you can rent a mountain bike to zip around and enjoy the scenery.

Where to stay

Mittelberg has a traditional and cosy small town feel, with a mixture of thick stone and lodge style buildings. There's a small selection of restaurants in town with wood panelled dining rooms, and friendly waiting staff serving hearty food to those who have spent the day in the cold. The aprés-ski scene is similarly laid back, with rustic styled bars full of people still in their ski boots, sipping beer and warming up. There's a small selection of the usual ski town shops, with practical stores full of ski equipment and outdoor gear in case you have forgotten anything. The highest point of the town is the St. Jodok church, with its dramatic spire, and this is one of the oldest towers within the surrounding areas.
