2/10 Poor

You should visit the hotels they advertise on their site. There is nothing charming about this hotel. The floors squeaked so bad that we were not able to have a good night sleep. No air conditioning. Electric fans were provided but were too noise when turned on. What we paid is not worth the accommodation. Also breakfast is served so late at 9am. By then the guests are already out and about. There is no management on the premises until after 8 am and only stays until 3pm. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS BED AND BREAKFAST. DO NOT WASTE YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY ON THIS PLACE.

4/10 Fair

The hotel is a mixed bag. It is not 4 star but a 2 star house staffed infrequently (e.g., had to carry suitcases down 4 flights at 8:40 am). If you don’t believe our 2 star rating, see our pictures of the mold in the bath tub, the knicks on the vanity, etc. We used the 15 Euro extra late check-in (after 8 pm). We were not greeted with a glass of port and pastries as others claim but with a complaint that we had arrived a few minutes early and an immediate request to pay the late check-in fee and city tax in cash. Favorable was that the place was clean and the room spacious with high ceilings. We had the 2nd floor suite but were warned not to use the 2nd bedroom. The balcony overlooking the garden was picturesque. The continental breakfast was good with fresh fruit and orange juice but no eggs. The waitress was nice and helpful. The breakfast started at 9 am—If you want to take an 8 am tour to the Douro valley, as we did, you’re out of luck. They did reluctantly let us eat the last day at 8:40 am. The evening pastries were limited with only instant coffee or tea available. The location was remote from the old city. However, it is a block to a Metro station a few stops from the old city. There are restaurants nearby including a Chinese restaurant popular with the locals. So, if you want a clean 2 star room in an accessible location, it may be right for you. For a couple I’d call it a 4 star price. For a family using the full suite it might be OK.

The perfect place to stay and to explore Porto.
We were blessed to stay at this lovely and friendly B&B in Porto to celebrate my birthday. The welcome that we received was matched by lots of excellent tips and suggestions for places to visit in Porto. Our room Ponte D'Luis managed to be both large and extremely cosy. Lots of lovely features, storage, a bathroom with two (!) sinks and fabulous toiletries. The breakfast room was lovely with a fantastic selection of treats set amongst a lovely back courtyard. Furthermore, my partner needed some medical attention on the first day and we received immediate help going above and beyond to help us. Thank you for a magnificent few days!

We had a lovely time at Charming House Marques, there is a sitting room where you can help yourselves to tea/coffee biscuits and cakes. There is also lots of information on the coffee table about Porto with places to see and eat, our room on the ground floor which was excellent, we had our own small patio area, breakfast was on the 1st floor. Metro was about 5mins walk away that was 9euros for 24hrs for 2 people, and that included the funicular train. Need to come back again as we did not get to see all of Porto.

Highly recommended
This is a guest house not a hotel and therefore does not have a reception which I misunderstood and couldn't understand why they kept "pestering" me for an arrival time. They need a time to have staff there to welcome you. The welcome couldn't have been bettered, a glass of port and cake. Then an introduction to the house and its facilities followed by advice to the tourist on getting around Porto if you need it. There is a Metro station three minutes walk away useful for returning at the end of the day as it's all uphill. Invest in a 24 or 72 hour travel card from the tourist office as buying a ticket is a bit complicated at the station. There are three good restaurants locally. Parking on the street is expensive but there's a good car park around the corner which is reasonable. This guest house was the only place we stayed in Portugal where we could make tea or coffee at any time - bliss! In the evening there was cake too. Breakfast was fabulous. There's a neat little garden at the back for guests use. Tiny downside for me was the room only had shutters for the window which meant a lot of light came through from the street lamps and I like a dark bedroom.

Amazing gem of a spot to stay
Everyone there was amazing! So nice and helpful. The breakfast was delightful and this was a great place to stay if you want to be a little outside of the craziness of downtown with the ease of taking the metro just about anywhere you want to go in Porto! Absolutely recommend!

Delightful stay in great location
Fantastic stay in a great location. We were picked up at the airport by Diogo, who was welcoming and full of information. Because the room wasn't ready, he drove us around and pointed out some of the highlights of their lovely city, so it was like getting a private tour. Check in was simple and effortless. We were given a glass of port to welcome us to the hotel and their country. The room was very large, quiet, clean, and comfortable with an enclosed balcony overlooking a garden. The continental breakfast was delicious with plenty of options from which to choose. Just minutes walking distance to the metro line and 30 min walk to the river. Everyone was friendly and very helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

This is a lovely hotel , that offers a very personal touch. The staff are lovely and greeted us with port and home made cake when we checked in. There is a living room where you can make a drink and there was always cake and biscuits available, a very nice touch. The beds are very comfortable and lots of hot water for a bath ! The most lovely place to spend our time in Porto!
Our stay at Charming House Marquês was absolutely wonderful! My boyfriend and I arrived around 10 AM before our room was ready, and were kindly welcomed to check in and leave our bags for a few hours while we went out to explore the city. We were given a great summary of the neighborhoods and our hostess gave us great tips and marked up a map for us. The room was so lovely and comfortable! Had it been a little warmer, we would have definitely spent more time on the terrace with morning coffee. The breakfast was great! It included fruits, croissants, sweet treats, cold cuts, cheese, fresh jams, parfaits, cereal, coffee, and I'm sure I'm missing something. What a great start to the day. We truly felt at home here and each member of the staff that we met was so kind and helpful. The location is in a quieter area, but most sights/neighborhoods are no more than a 10-20 minute walk. There's a metro station a half block away if you're going a bit further. All in all, it was sad for us to leave this gem of a guesthouse and city. Would totally recommend staying here!
