hopping mall hotel
It was an interesting hotel. It was a little hard to find at first. I was wandering around shopping mall with my suitcase. I got to the movie theater and ask someone, they said to go to the end of the hallway and turn right. I finally found at the reception desk just passed the convention with 1000 people milling around. I happen to love these types of oddball situations when I travel. The staff was great. They allowed me to check in early and check out of little late. The room and hotel was very dated but it was clean enough and it was a good price. My favorite part was when I wandered out the front of the mall in the evening to find that a food market appeared.

Nice enough room for the money. A little hard to find but once you know it all is good. Great food in the mall and outside food court. Location is ok. I would stay again.

Great clean hotel worth its price
The hotel was great. I saw some other reviews on websites about the age and cleanliness of the hotel and was hesitant at first. However, I found the hotel to be clean, spacious and well-maintained despite its age. They provide similar amenities to a 4 star hotel. Housekeeping was done daily and properly with clean towels, bottled water and toiletries being re-supplied. The TV sometimes had reception issues but I would not complain given the price that I paid. The hotel is located within a shopping mall and my tour pickups always had trouble finding it. It might be a good idea to let the tour companies know to turn their vans into the carpak or to ask the very helpful mall security guards. They only allow you to check into the rooms at 2pm although you can leave your luggage in the store-room for free. However, the mall only opens at 10am so be prepared to have nothing to do till 10am if you arrive early. Hotels.com claims there is an in-room safe but this is not present. You might want to check if the reception provides safe deposit boxes (I didn't try so I don't know if they offer).

8/10 Very good

The hotel is some sort of an 80's 90's old congress centre built on top of a shopping mall( old but still pretty well maintained). There's a movie theatre, a food court with both americain and thai fast food restaurants, thai massage parlours, lots of stores of course, etc. etc. The rooms are spacious, relatively comfortable but again with that 80's 90's old appearance. It is situated blocks away from the brand new MAYA shopping mall, and not too far from the old downtown area. For the price I paid, it was worth every penny.

New n yet-not-so-new hotel
Hotel located within premise of aged shopping centre. Convenient to most places and can't expect much given the very budget price. Relax lounge at lift lobby of every level is very tastefully done up, though the interior of the rooms need a little more sprucing. Past 10pm when most shops are closed, it can be rather quiet and intimidating to walk back to hotel as the access to it is through the basement one carpark. Otherwise, it is good during the daytime with the busyness of the area.

A gem with much value for money if you can find it
The hotel is build adjacent to and on the 4th levelof the Kad Suan Kaew shopping center. Rooms are in old fashioned luxurious style with a lot of wood and room The beds are clean and comfortable. The staff was OK. The only problem I had was the access; I had a problem finding the reception from the spot I parked the car and I needed help from girls working for the neighboring conference center to find my car back.

living at the mall
You don't have to leave the building. Has food court Top's grocery store with Western food items. Pharmacy cinema passport pictures bank. Street food some nights at the front door. The rooms are big old and carpeted and unusually decorated. The wifi worked OK. The desk staff was OK except for the surly frowning manager.. Housekeeping was good. Great neighborhood 2 blocks towards the mountain and 1 block right. Must try Mae Sai Khao Sawy. Small House Bar is fun.

Toilet leaked, hotel was hard to find and far away from anything to walk to. Was inside a mall complx that had a tops market for food. Really your only option. Beds were comfy and soft. Very old hotel.

It is what it is.
We spent one night in this MODEST hotel. It is located on the fourth floor of a local shopping mall. The photos of the lobbies and "terrace" are accurate, but they suggest that the rooms are as attractive and newly refurbished. They are not. I don't think the rooms have been updated since the hotel was built in the 1980s. We requested a wake-up call, but we didn't get one. They will provide free bottles of water, but you will have to ask for them. We felt safe in our rooms, but they had definitely seen better days.

Good Price, Clean Room, Odd Location,Terrible Wifi
Baan Din Ki is a comfortable stay. Affordable, clean, beautifully decorated in the living areas (though the rooms are not at all awe-inspiring). The main reason I wouldn't recommend this hotel is the weird location and, honestly, the lack of (reliable) internet. For some context: I am a twenty-something female American who is in her third year of living in Northern Thailand. I stayed at Baan Din Ki for a relaxing weekend in the city. The hotel is located inside of Kad Suan Gaew: a shopping mall on the lower end of Chiang Mai's luxury scale. Kad Suan Gaew is mostly intended for use by Thais, not tourists, as obvious by the lack of toilet paper in the public bathrooms. The shopping center is connected to a large hotel (Orchid) and an event center. A good portion of the (VERY large) building is unoccupied, including the foyer leading to the hotel (reception located on the 4th floor of the shopping center). Coming and going felt very similar to walking through parking garages: as a solo female, I was on my guard. The Expedia ad said that there was wifi available, at the very least in public areas. Yes, the hotel provided a wifi login ("to be used in public areas"), but the connection was spotty in availability and low in quality. I ended up going to a local 24 hour coffee shop for their wifi to get wifi that was strong enough for updating my blog and holding a Skype call.
