The Chiang Mai Night Bazaar makes for an enjoyable stroll on a balmy evening, and there's a laid back atmosphere with colorful stalls lit by fairy lights and busy, narrow pathways full of locals and tourists alike. There are also lots of temptingly spicy aromas coming from the food vendors, with traditional Thai cuisine served from carts and stalls. The Old City is surrounded by high red brick walls, and Tha Phae Gate has become a tourist attraction in itself. A reconstruction of the 1891 gate, you'll find rows of mopeds and bicycles parked outside, and vendors selling souvenirs to enthusiastic tourists who are visiting the Old City area. Chiang Mai Zoo attracts many visitors who want to see their panda enclosure, with these adorable fluffy creatures on display in their climate controlled environment. The airport is located in the west of the city, just a 10 minute taxi ride from the center, and if you have a driving license in English then you can rent a car, although driving in Thailand can be a culture shock. Many westerners find it easier to find a songteaw outside the terminal, which is a minivan that takes several passengers along set routes, and it's usually fairly easy to find one going to your destination for a low price.
