This location is very close to Hanamikoji Street, the famous Geisha street in Gion, Kenninji Temple, Yasaka Shrine, Shijo Avenue and Shirakawa Canal. The hotel itself is very nice in the traditional interior design. I personally think this is the best hotel in the area.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It was very convenient to Gion district. We would stay here again. FYI, they included “breakfast” however, you have to make it yourself. They provide a bread making kit and a bread maker in your room, so we set the timer and the bread was ready when we woke up. I was a bit surprised that we were expected to make our own bread, but I will say that it was the best bread I’ve ever had. It was an interesting and unique experience for sure!

Beautiful hotel, even more beautiful surroundings. The entrance way does get pretty busy around the afternoon because of the shops and the shrine very near it, but just wake up early and its perfect. The staff were helpful and their free tour and late night tea was super nice and thoughtful. Our room was so beautiful we never wanted to leave.

Laundry machines available, although the fee was a little high compared to other hotels we stayed at in Japan, and the pay system could be more convenient (credit card only, no cash/apple pay). Loved staying at the OMO5 Gion! Enjoyed having a kitchenette and also had the breakfast option of freshly baked bread, alternating with sushi. They have wonderful pajama pants and tops, which my husband wanted to buy, but they were not for sale. The room was quite large for Japanese Hotels and felt more like an apt than hotel. There was also more service than we expected. We will try more Hoshino resorts in the future! Arigatou Gozaimasu to the staff for a lovely stay!

Good hotel, great location. One negative was the window in room we had was obscured glass. I think it was to hide the wall of the next door building that was only a few feet away from the window. So while light was let in, we could not see out. No way to see if it was raining, cloudy or sunny without leaving the room. Breakfast was included (in your room), but coffee was not offered every day.

the property has excellent location for daytime - at night it could get a bit quiet as is most of Kyoto. easy access to sights and transport. room is nice but no windows....good for family and kids. overall recommended!

We loved our stay here. We are a family of 2 adults and 3 young children and we were very comfortable here. Truly felt like home with a lot of space for the kids. I would take out half a star only for the lack of amenities for women like facial wash and lotions and slippers for adults and kids. They provided 1 pair of adult slippers. Other than that, they had a complete kitchenette if you wanted to make a meal in your hotel room. They also had matcha tea with wagashi every night and a free early morning tour of the shrines and temples in the area. The location is perfect, close to the gion shijo station and a hop and skip away from restaurants and gion area.

Not a baby-friendly hotel

My 4-year-old son fell ill after checking in. However, the hotel does not have 24-hour reception service, so we had to rely on ourselves to find a thermometer and medicine. The next morning, when the receptionist was available, she only informed me of the cost if I wanted to extend my stay, without offering any guidance on where to find a doctor. I expected more from a chain hotel and was very disappointed with our experience.
