RIPPED OFF!!! FALSE ADVERTISING. Service was SUBPAR. People had FAKE SMILES and service seeemed OFF. Staff at THE PEN RESTAURANT couldn't COORDINATE with the service given. They were BUMPING INTO EACH OTHER. It took FOREVER to get the bill. Don't get me wrong. The staff was GREAT , but were LOST when ot came to SERVICE to customers. Rooms were DATED and RUSTED and power outlets were positioned to one part of the room and run by a POWERSTRIP( Under the desk) MATTRESS was VERY OLD. ( SPRING WAS ABOUT TO POP OUT OF IT) The FAUCET WAS BROKEN and it was HARD to was hands and brush teeth, etc.The last day we had a ROACH visit us in the bathroom. There were guests that we met that became FRIENDS and CHECKED OUT ( After we left) because of the SERVICE. Shuttle service to the airport was offered but on the day we left there was a CHARGE. Read CAREFULLY before you ask for SHUTTLE SERVICE. Charged me on day of departure.I'd rather call a TAXI. THEY ARE CHEAPER!!

Fantastic beach hotel with blue waters

Avila Hotel is a wonderful place to stay. We stayed in the Blues rooms over the water which was spectactual (quiet and just you and the waves). Avila is one of the few hotels with a nice beach with chairs, thatched huts, and great swimming and snorkeling. Service can be a little slow for the in house restaurants and trying to get a drink on the beach (chalk this up to "island time"). However, everyone was very friendly and helpful. Hotel is a short walk (15 minutes) to the downtown area. Many great restaurants nearby as well. Would definitely return!

Great location, and next to some fine food options outside the hotel. Beautiful clean rooms with magnificient views (Oceans Blue), and two private beaches with calm water for swimming, sunbathing or snorkling. Underwhelming service, substandard food, poor quality bar, and needs proper management and maintenance and a face lift here and there.

We stayed during pandemic, this review may not represent the hotel during normal times. Good: great 2 private beaches very close to the rooms, great snorkeling, on par with other public beaches that we visited all around the island. Big parking with security. 15 minutes walk to the historic city center. Clean rooms that are mostly renovated. Not so good: the slowest and the most uncomfortable reception in my memory. During the day there’s always just one person working, and they work very slow (I assume it may be because complicated rules they need to follow, I noticed at some point that they had to enter some data in computer and also wrote down with a pen into a journal). The lobby doesn’t have AC, it’s extremely hot. My check in experience was hell, as I had to stay in the long line, hold a baby in my hands, sweat badly from the heat, for 20 minutes, and nobody attempted to help aside from offering a beverage. In the evening (8pm) nobody’s at the reception and there’s no bell to get their attention. I did get a room upgrade through VIP hotel program, but only after I complained to Expedia directly. They didn’t offer it on check in. Restaurant food is just ok, you’d better visit any of the multitude of great restaurants within just 5 minutes walk. Servers are also extremely slow in taking orders and bringing check, even in not busy time. All spaces have a visible sign of wear. Large chipped paint in the lobby. Seaside structures all rusty. Very old thermostats.

    Avila Beach -- Paradise Reimagined

With whatever time and money we have available, we get to make choices on where and how we spend our vacation. I couldn’t have made a better choice for my time and my money than Curacao, and Avila Beach Hotel. In a time of challenge everywhere, but certainly on this little island, everyone in this beautiful hotel with its equally beautiful picturesque surroundings were just outstanding. I posted on Facebook that they are some of the nicest people I’ve met in all my travels. And I love that their hospitality was genuine…they weren’t playing the “nice” role to strangers, but through their service and as free time permitted, engaged you as a new friend they were happy to get to know. It started with the kind desk representative, whose name I forgot, who checked me in when I arrived. (Sadly I only saw her that one time due to her work schedule.) But there were so many others who matched her grace and wit and personality and helpfulness – Damian and Anouk at the front desk, Sky (bartender par excellence!) and Jair and Noor and Woodley and Nathania in restaurant service, and Khalid and Rejeanot and Farley in their various supportive roles. I remembered their names, because they were indeed memorable. Thank you – all of you – for what you did to make my time there and with you so wonderful. Te otro bia, Dios bendishona bo!

I think the resort is beautiful but it's definitely for families or older people. If you're in your 20s or early 30s, I wouldn't stay here. 1 of the restaurants was closed due to COVID and the open one was alright, the food was bland. I had to put a $500 food/bar credit down when I checked in which I wasn't informed about prior or I wouldn't have stayed here. Not sure if it's because I'm American because other people at the hotel didn't have to do that. I still enjoyed my stay but won't come back to this hotel.
