Khao Rang (Rang Hill) is one of Phuket’s most famous viewpoints. Located to the northwest of the city centre, its summit offers views out over the town, to the south of the island, neighbouring islands and along the hills forming the ‘spine’ of the island, upon which sits the impressive Phuket Big Buddha. At the top of the hill, you'll find a nicely landscaped park with children’s playground, 3 restaurants and bars, a fitness park, and a panoramic terrace.
Rang Hill has 2 main roads leading up: one from Yaowarat Road by Vachira Hospital and the other from the east-west connecting Mae Luan Road. Along Soi Vachira, leading from the hospital, you’ll come across Phuket’s first sitting Buddha, a large golden image in Wat Khao Rang. Both roads leading up the hill are a good workout if you decide to walk but they’re well-shaded and quite cool, as is the crest of the hill.

This is where visitors can discover a large golden sitting Buddha – the first of its kind on the island. This charming temple is busy at weekends when locals pay a visit.
Many tour companies bringing tourists to the Phuket and Andaman region usually include this temple in their tour itinerary together with Khao Rang Viewpoint and Khao Rang restaurants such as the popular Tung Ka Café & Restaurant.

Read moreKhao Rang Viewpoint – sometimes called Rang Hill Viewpoint – is among the most famous of the many viewpoints around Phuket. The charming location offers unrivalled views to the south, right across the island’s main city and all the way to Big Buddha hill in the distance. Some of the small, verdant islands off Phuket’s east coast are also visible.
The viewpoint itself is marked with a beautiful open pagoda, which leads out to a large viewing platform at the edge of the hilltop, with guardrails for safety. The whole area is surrounded by landscaped gardens and mature rubber trees, making it a very peaceful and natural spot. There is also a modest selection of cafés nearby, which take full advantage of the fantastic view.Location: Patiphat, Wichit, Mueang, Phuket 83000, Thailand

Tung Ka Cafe is one of Phuket's best sunset viewing points and one of the only points that isn't actually on the west coast. Many west coast viewpoints can get pretty crowded around 6.30pm but Rang Hill, the site of Tung Ka Café, is relatively peaceful.
Khao Rang gives out on vistas over Phuket Town and the island’s ‘backbone’ of north-to-south hills – every bit as beautiful as a coastal sea view.

Khao Rang Breeze

Khao Rang Breeze is the nearest thing to treetop dining in Phuket. This predominantly southeast-facing restaurant at the summit of Rang Hill enjoys fabulous views at any time of day. Unlike many Phuket restaurants, the menu at Khao Rang Breeze is quite international and even though it does serve Thai food it’s not necessarily dedicated to Thai food.
With several trees growing up through the wooden decking and several more within touching distance from the restaurant’s protective fencing, you get the definite impression that Breeze is cradled in the surrounding strong branches rather than built into the hillside.
