If staying in Playa del Coco, I highly recommend Hotel Claudio & Gloria. They are the only beachfront hotel. While they have a wonderful restaurant and bar area overlooking the beach that is fully accessible to hotel guests, the hotel itself has a very small number of rooms, leading to incredible personal service and a bit of a haven away from the busy beach areas. You will likely meet the owners during your stay. The hotel and restaurant staff are amazing.

Nice to be on the beach. The room and beds were clean and comfortable. The washroom needs update and ceiling had some water damage. We read about the mosquitoes so we brought some plug in insect repellent. Not too shabby for a last minute booking.

I felt that the place was somwhat unfrienly, limited wi-fi,very little water came out of the shower - no hot water - the room did not have a single table for you to sit and eat something or just sit.there was construcion and I felt they could hace done a bether job on keeping the noice down - specially in the mornings - the place simply did not do it for me.

The location, right next to the ocean, was delightful. Although the staff was friendly, we observed that the complimentary breakfast included slightly smaller glasses of juice and coffee for us, prompting us to request additional drinks each time. The hotel's surroundings were pleasant and easily walkable. We also took a boat tour of the area, which is highly recommended and well worth the time if you have the opportunity.

2/10 Poor

There was non-stop construction starting at approximately 5am every morning. The windows didn't close and the one curtain was not private at all. The door lock was not secure and last night we stayed we slept with a chair jammed in front of the door because of a scary situation we encountered earlier in the day. To top it all off the water quit working mid shower and when we asked the staff at the restaurant they said it would take at least 20 minutes to come back on (which turned out to be closer to 45 minutes). They said we could buy water so I could finish rinsing off in the shower. Later that evening my friend was electrocuted while in the shower. It was dangerous because of these issues and combined with a local business man who accosted us in the street and stalked us at a restaurant we left as early as we could the next morning. Unfortunately we had to pay for the following 5 days we had arranged to stay there. It was very unfortunate. We had read the reviews and decided to take a chance because neither my friend or I are really picky but when it comes to being unsafe in a different country, that topped it all off.

6/10 Good

This is a hard review to write. There are many things I liked about the property, but some drawbacks as well. Drawbacks are all related to the room condition. This property is a composed of about 14 OLD 'cabin' style rooms. The door has a gap of about 1 inch from the bottom of the door to the floor. No door sweep means whatever is outside for bugs are coming in. I just rolled up a towel and put it across this area after being visited by a large beetle. The door security also looked weak. The bathroom is in poor repair. The shower had 1 working handle for water, there was no control for hot/cold and flow took a while to establish. The bathroom had a screened cement block window high on the wall. I did not see any evidence that upgrades were in progress as per a responce in another review. All that being said, the staff are friendly and welcoming. The breakfast included with the room fee was wonderful. Can't get a better location as it is right on the beach. (That means you hear the ocean waves all night and the noise from the bars adjoining the property). I felt the fee of $120 Canadian for the night was high for the condition of the room.... but in hindsight I was paying for location. I didn't and can't complain, it was a last minute booking and there wasn't much available in my price range. Just understand what you are getting for the money. Cheers

This is a very basic property. Very basic. Its old, no pictures on the walls, bathroom mirror was abot 8" x 8". Floor tiles are worn out, cracked, etc. Its a box - with 2 beds and ac. We had a lizard in our room. That said, the bed and ac worked and thats all i cared about. Its right on the beach too, and a 30 second walk to town. Sheets were clean, shower worked but no hot water, just tepid.

Location, location, location. Although this is definitely a rustic place, the location and staff more than make up for any lacking amenities. The room is basic but comfortable, the bathroom was clean and the shower pressure and temperature was better than expected from the looks of it. Laying in bed listening to the music and the sounds of the waves at night made for a very relaxing time. This is definitely a "Chill Out" place. The staff works the attached restaurant where the service and food was fantastic. Not I single bad item on the menu full of local fare that was incredible, but also included some traditional American dishes for the less adventurous.

We liked the fact that we could walk out our door, and walk right to the beach 🏖. Also we liked the restaurant/bar being next door. Weekends appear to be noisy with loud music. Also our last nights stay there was a lot of noise outside our place for a long period of time.

6/10 Good

Hotel Claudio y Gloria is small and the staff is friendly. If you're just looking for a place to sleep and grab a bite to eat, this is your place. The room was small and minimally furnished-we had two full beds, a night stand, a wood chair and a small shelf/closet unit. The linens were clean and the towels were replaced daily. There was two bottles of water for us when we checked in. The bed was made for us daily. The room itself was worn and dated, but functional and budget-friendly. The "toiletries" was wall mounted soap pumps in the shower and at the sink. If you are a resort vacationer, look elsewhere. The tile flooring was chipped and dingy, making the room appear dirty. There are geckos in the rooms. The hot water in the shower comes from an on-demand water heater showerhead with sketchy wiring. There is no hot water at the sink. The monkeys and birds in the trees along the driveway are LOUD first thing in the morning. The bars and restaurants nearby can get kind of loud in the evenings, but even on Friday and Saturday nights, the noise dimmed around 11pm, which was fine for us. (The 7am marathon on the boardwalk on Sunday morning was a bit obnoxious though!) The included breakfast is next door at Restaurante Donde Claudio y Gloria. It was good and served fairly quickly, with decent sized portions. I was able to drink the coffee black with sugar, which literally never happens anywhere! We would stay here again, but we're very low maintenance travelers.
