Grand Tour of Moors

The hotel was friendly, good staff, good food, good beer. The room was a little quirky but fine. I would stay there again. Only comment is no radiator in the bathroom which may be an issue in the winter.

2/10 Poor

Avoid at all costs!!!!

Disgusting. Dirty. Unsafe. Owners are bullies. I had to call the police as they tried to throw my family out because I complained at the state of the kettle and lack of basic shower facilities. The landlord tried to break in. It was horrendous! See my review on trip advisor for full details- there wasn't enough characters in this box to leave the full horrendous, traumatic review.

The staff are very friendly and helpful , the food was excellent and good variety. The room we were in is tired and needs a bit TLC.

The service, food and staff were excellent but unfortunately the room could do with an upgrade. The stair carpet needs replacing too.

Lovely 17 century building with fantastic staff

The hotel is a 17 century so please bare this in mind. Each room is individual and full of character. Room could do with a new carpet but the bed was so comfortable. Radiator in room can be changed for your own temperature. Food was lovely but breakfast was outstanding. The staff are all really friendly and helpful. To get to car park of hotel you go through the public car park to the way out and as you turn left it is just on your left.

2 night stay in Kirkbymoorside.

The hotel was very clean with barman/manager most helpful and prompt in dealing with us on our arrival. He was serving customers at the bar but said that he would be with us in a couple of minutes, and he was true to his word as he took us up to our room and explained everything to us that we needed to know. We decided to have a drink and dine in the restaurant as the menu looked very good. We were not disappointed as the food and service were first class. As we were staying for two nights we had breakfast each morning in the hotel and it to was first class with an excellent choice and service. As we will probably dine at the Michelin star restaurant again we will certainly return to the Kings Head Hotel. Great food, great service and excellent value for money.

6/10 Good

Not too bad for the price

The staff were nice and helpful though sometimes hard to find! Breakfast was nice but we ate in the restaurant for dinner and while nice it was very overpriced for the quality of food. Room was small but nice. The bedrooms and upstairs areas were clean but really need to be redecorated as they are very tired and shabby. Was good to have a dog friendly section for breakfast but all the set tables were crammed into one corner of the area meaning the dogs were all on top of each other which was less useful. Overall a decent stay for the price but definitely room for improvement.

4/10 Fair

Comfy bed. Just the one pillow each. I know not everyone needs/wants two but the choice is always nice. Extremely low beam that demanded caution whenever moving in the room. Tired, old bathroom with peeling woodchip paper. Safe to say that the room we had wouldn't be the one fearured in listings. Adequate enough but not somewhere to head for if you're looking for and kind of special night away.

room small but comfortable

The room was comfortable enough but Small and quite dated. Unfortunately they had lost the chef so no evening meals The breakfast however was pretty good served by a very bright and cheery lady.

Great host

Host did everything to accommodate us.
Tim, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

A tad disappointing

We expected a typical four star stay. What we got was an average three star hotel. The breakfasts were good, the evening meals quite good but really just a pub menu. The room had a small amount of tea coffee sugar and one pack of biscuits when we arrived. We had to ask for extra on the first evening but expected them to be topped up during our daily room refresh. However those never happened! At all during our three night stay! So each day we had to find someone to ask for additional supplies. I don’t think having three hot drinks in our room is asking too much. We didn’t ask for biscuits so not sure if they would have been provided daily. The staff were generally helpful and friendly and doing their best but the hotel seemed understaffed with no evidence of anyone overseeing things and being in charge. Our room was quirky but that was ok. The bathroom was disappointing with a toilet seat that didn’t fit and a cold water tap with very poor pressure. The shower was good. We didn’t let any of these things spoil our break as we were out and about during the day and ate elsewhere on the last two nights.

8/10 Very good

Nice friendly welcome

Very nice stay, staff were very welcoming and friendly. The hotel is very traditional and the rooms spacious but needed some TLC. For example half empty toiletries and no toilet roll. Overall though this is a nice and friendly pub hotel and great value for money with the bonus of nice staff. The food in the pub was great and good value for money and the hotel breakfast was equally as nice. We would stay here again if in the area

4/10 Fair

Disappointing but ok stay.

We got “upgraded” to the cottage room which is in the courtyard of the pub. The room was big and had a separate lounge/kitchenette and bathroom. However the decor is very old fashioned and the toilet didn’t flush very well, the shower screen needs attention as water leaked when we had a shower. The front door sticks and is difficult to lock. We didn’t find the bed very comfortable and looks old. Breakfast was ok. The whole pub needs decorating and a good clean. It doesn’t look like there have been much investment in the pub for a long time. We only used it a base for touring around the North York Moors. There’s not a lot to do in Kirby Moorside, next time we probably would stay in a bigger town like Pickering.
