When a room is bad, don’t put people in it.
The hotel is gorgeous but the wait to check in took over 30 minutes. We were pleased with the luggage delivery service. Food service staff, towel staff, drivers, and most everyone was wonderful. Front desk staff were not wonderful. Our room upon arrival was loud and cold. The thermostat was set to permanent cold air and could not be changed. The TV was stuck on with loud volume. The remote control didn’t work and we couldn’t unplug it. We called the front desk and someone arrived soon to inspect the tv. It was a bad remote control he said. As we froze in the room, I tried to warm up in the shower but no hot water arrived!! The hot water was out. I called the front desk to ask for a room upgrade and said we would pay anything to get out of that room but was told nothing was available and check back in the morning. We seriously considered leaving the property but with two kids, we stayed. The next morning, we called about the upgrade and were told nothing was available. The third day with cold showers, I went back to the desk to beg because we were so cold in the room and there was no hot water. It was such punishment- we would pay any price for an upgrade. They said no upgrade was available but placed us in a new building after maintenance confirmed our report about the water and thermostat. I wish they would have taken care of us on our first arrival instead of making a chunk of our vacation uncomfortable.

Loved it for our honeymoon
It was a huge amazing resort! Lots of walking. We upgraded to a royal suite and it was worth it! The staff everywhere were so kind and worked very hard to keep you happy! The oriental restaurant and the steakhouse were amazing! The Royal restaurant was wonderful too! The buffets were ok. Some good stuff, some not so great.We loved the resort and will definitely be back!

Hotel was big, really green, and a lot of animals. Nothing for kids around 3-7 years old. No special stuff for kids like water slides or anything fun. There was a kids club with a dirty small pool and one swing. Good beach for kids. It’s not deep can’t go far and no waves. Ideal for kids.For adults there was a special natural pool with no kids aloud. Food was poor but not terrible. Saying this because I’ve been in different Mexico hotels and have something to compare. I’ve visited it once but I won’t go anymore.

The ONLY disappointment is the lack of quality drinks: in the room freezer only Pepsi and 7up; no orange juice for breakfast; instead, an orange color drink with chemical taste is served. We loved the closeness to Xcaret park and Chichen Itza. The staff were amazing, however they push the time share presentation hard, especially on royal guests. The grounds are huge and there is no direct path on resort. They offer shuttle service but often times you have to wait 10-30 mins for a shuttle. The food was the most disappointing part of Occidental Xcaret resort. We paid more for royal service and food too. It was very bland and not good. Be prepared to do a lot of walking.
