The bus is about 45 mins from Nikko station to Chuzenji. It's a windy road, but pretty. We went up and down each day to visit Nikko proper and also went to Kinugawa to go canyoning with NOAC guides. Highly recommend if you want to go rafting, etc.

Nikko was a welcome respite from Tokyo, which is very cosmopolitan. There are ancient trees, moss covered walls and opulent shrines. Perhaps the favorite part of a 3 week trip.

Nikko est un três bon endroit pour découvrir la nature, la culture et la gastronomie japonaise en dehors de l'agitation des grosses villes telles que Osaka, Kyoto et Tokyo.

Beautiful hikes! Ask about some of the out of the way/non touristy hikes. We spent a day off the beaten path and it was epic!!

Old Edo town with lots of shrines. Toshogu Shrine is UNESCO heritage site. Nikko town has many Edo era houses and the Ryusu Falls was beautiful with autumn foliage. Saw many Caucasian tourists here. Worth a visit.

Nikko was amazing, friendly, and beautiful. It's probably my favorite place in Japan out of the 6 places I've visited. It was beautiful and felt very homey. The people were very welcoming and friendly even though I don't speak any Japanese.

Everything need a fee (separately). Big temple, small temple, even a bridge for photo taking you have to pay for it. It is not like other places in Japan a fee for everything.

Nikko is great for a day trip. We spent 2 nights, it was too long. It's a sleepy mountain town, which is great but not much to do once you've seen the shrines.

The Nikko town itself is not as exciting as I have expected. It has good walking trails, shrines and temples nearby which are good for first time travellers.

Beautiful small town but didnt know we needed to reserve taxis ahead of time which made getting around a bit difficult.
"I should have booked 2 nights to really enjoy! Everything was excellent. My 1st time in Japan and this was lovely. Staff checking me in spoke great English.
I booked a huge tatami room and had a balcony overlooking the river. There is a turn-down service while you’re at dinner.
Buffet was fantastic and the whiskey was not watered down at all! Definitely try the sesame ball things for desert.
There are clear English instructions on how to use the onsens and an app that shows you how crowded they are in real time. Wonderfully comfortable sleeping here. I’d love to stay 2 nights in the future, maybe check out Edo Wonderland. The hotel gift shop is a good place to buy nicer, regional souvenirs.
Excellent customer service: 100 out of 10.
Just watch a couple videos on how the limited express trains work & the Kinugawa hotel busses & you’ll be fine. "
"Historic hotel with amazing views and a great location. Would recommend to anyone staying in Nikko. Don’t miss the shrine that’s just 15 minutes away."
"The room was beautiful, the best hotel we stayed at in Japan. There was a private onsen in the suite. The massage chair seemed old and not in keeping with the high quality of everything else. Definitely would highly recommend"
