The property is a little dated but it was clean and quiet. Reception is not always staffed however when I rang about leaving my bag because I was arriving early I was advised to leave my bag at the Village Inn. When I returned to check in Teddy offered to drive me to the Alpenhorn Motel, so going over and beyond. At the end of my stay Teddy was extremely helpful and offered to drive me to the bus stop. Thanks a million.

Easy use of kitchen and laundry (costs 4 dollars), nice spacy room and ok bathroom. It's possible to walk into town in about 15 min. Don't book through hotels.com though, that site is horrible! Just use the motels own website.

We arrived around 3 pm. There was no one on reception and our key was taped to the door. We found our own room which had been skim cleaned. Toiletries were provided but were all tucked away in a drawer out of sight.

Motel as a bit old, however very comfortable. Staff made my late arrival very easy Parking off the street and at your door. Not on the main drive along the lake, but one block away from the lakeshore drive and walk. Can easily (<10Min) walk to the glow worm tour or to the small (nicely done) downtown as well as some nice restaurants. Of my several nights on the South Island, this was my favorite layover. Don't miss the Sand Fly Cafe for Eggs Benedict (a new name now, but google knows it as Sand Fly.
