Artists hammer silver and weave textiles in open studios where you can watch authentic Peruvian handicrafts come to life. Intimate restaurants serve fusion Andean cuisine in converted colonial mansions with courtyards and original stone walls. Getting around requires sturdy shoes—most visitors walk uphill from Plaza de Armas in about 15 minutes. The steep terrain creates dramatic views over red-tiled roofs towards distant Andean peaks.

Cusco Historic Center

Cusco Historic Centre feels like a living time capsule where ancient Incan walls meet Spanish colonial balconies on winding cobblestone streets. Traditional restaurants serve everything from simple quinoa soup to fancy alpaca steaks between exploring the neighborhood's museums and churches. "Great staff and location, right across the local market and extremely convenient to everything. The room was clean and a decent size. Breakfast was better than other hotels we stayed at in Peru, but don’t expect a luxury spread. The hot water was a little iffy, but please realize these older buildings in downtown Peru are not modern. Amazing rooftop patio overlooking the city. Overall an enjoyable stay and would comeback again."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Cusco

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most budget-friendly time to visit Cusco is from January to March, when hotel prices are lower. For an enriching experience that allows you to fully immerse yourself in the city's historical and cultural offerings, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is advisable. During this time, you can explore significant landmarks such as ancient ruins, the stunning cathedral, and various historical sites. Additionally, you can enjoy cultural tours, visit museums, shop for local handicrafts, and relax in charming cafes, all while taking advantage of the great value for money that Cusco provides during its quieter months.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To explore last-minute deals to Cusco, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may discover discounted rates on accommodations as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and special promotions, helping you seize opportunities for savings. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you’re more likely to see the best options. By staying updated on price drops or room availability, you could secure the perfect last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate due to factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so having some flexibility with your travel dates may help you save on your stay in a Cusco hotel. For those seeking a distinctive experience, boutique hotels can provide a more personalised touch and occasionally better value. When you book through Hotels.com, we’ll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price leans towards the higher end, we’ll suggest more affordable dates, which could help you secure a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre usually tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Cusco's excellent public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a bit further away that remains well connected. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often great value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
