"I would've given this stay 3 stars if it weren't for the absolutely horrendous mattresses we had. Apparently, this is an issue that has been complained about in negative reviews for years and the hotel hasn't done anything about it. I'm able to overlook a lot of things and didn't expect the Taj Majal, but the bed situation was miserable. It felt like sleeping on a rock slab.
Aside from that, the property is seriously dated. I assumed as much when I booked, so that wasn't a surprise. But, I feel like this could be a stellar property if the rooms and facilities were upgraded. Also, the AC units need overhauling. Thankfully, it was a cold week while we were there. In the summer, it wouldn't have been great.
Another thing is the balcony doors. They are so, so very loud when opening and closing. I could hear the neighbors going in and out constantly until around 1 am, and then again first thing in the morning.
The surrounding environs seemed a little run down and sketchy, and this hotel has all exterior entry rooms, which is really something I dislike. However, I knew this when booking and it's not like the hotel can help those things. Just something to consider if you, like me, don't like your room door opening to the outside.
I will say that every staff we encountered were friendly and welcoming and seemed to take their jobs very seriously, so they were the shining star of our experience. The oceanfront grill had very delicious food and a great view. "
