Naxos

What you need to know before you go

Naxos is the largest of Greece’s Cyclades islands and one of the most beautiful. As with most of the Greek islands, it boasts fantastic beaches and striking historical ruins. Not all of the history is ruins, though – check out Hora, the main town, and explore its steep cobbled streets and fortified Venetian mansions.

Away from the lovely beaches of the coastline, Naxos is home to the 1,004-metre-tall Mt Zeus (or Mt Zas, as it’s also known). The highest peak in the Cyclades is surrounded by quaint villages and lush fields of local produce. If you’re looking for a relatively quiet escape with all the charms the Greek islands are known for, you’ll find it in Naxos.
