- Unusual
A Vancouver ghost tour is an enjoyable evening activity for the whole family, especially if you’re into dark, historical stories. The tour includes plenty of stories, including the ones about the mystical lost souls of Gastown in Vancouver. Other stories you would likely hear are tales of revenge, love and betrayal, war, deadly fire, murder, crimes, and grisly tales of smallpox in ancient Vancouver.
While on the tour, what you'll experience is a vintage, mystical vibe – somewhat like a tour through ancient Europe. You'll also be led through the backside buildings and alleyways where the historical stories actually happened as the tour guide shares these dark, creepy stories.

Commodore Lanes & Billiards
Test your skills at Vancouver’s heritage-themed bowling alley
- Adventure
- Families
- Nightlife
The Commodore Lanes & Billiards house in Vancouver is a heritage-themed bowling alley that's quite unique. It offers 5-pin bowling, which is basically a scaled-down version of the more popular 10-pin version we see today. The rules are the same, but the balls are smaller.
After a few games, check out the games arcade or have a game of pool before refuelling at the on-site bar. As there are only 5 lanes, consider booking ahead of time. Note that there are no bumper rails as you often find in 10-pin bowling, so small children might find it punishingly difficult to score points.

Rio Theatre
Watch a movie in a historic setting
- Families
- Nightlife
Rio Theatre is a great spot to watch a movie in Vancouver. The theatre was built in the 1930s, so don’t expect fanciful, modern architecture. Instead, look out for interesting historical features and design.
However, you can be sure to catch a movie in a cool, relaxing, dark room with comfortable chairs and a drink. Plus, if you are a fan of alcohol, you can order a glass or bottle of cocktail, cider, wine, or beer while you watch.
