"The hotel building and room overall were very clean and felt modern but the restroom was awful. Keep in mind you will not have privacy. The door does not lock, it's one of those annoying sliding doors. If you are sharing a room with other people, they will hear all your business. Other than that the breakfast was good and the room was clean but because of the bathroom I don't think I will stay here again."

4 tips for savvy savings when booking a hotel in Oakland

  1. Book for the cheapest times: The most affordable times to visit Oakland are in February, November, and December, when hotel prices are generally lower. For a budget-friendly trip that allows you to fully experience the city's key landmarks and cultural attractions, it's recommended to stay for at least 2 to 3 days. During your visit, you can explore a variety of historical sites, enjoy live music, attend theatre performances, appreciate local art, admire the architecture, and indulge in delicious dining options, all of which offer great value for money. With prices potentially dropping during these months, it's an excellent opportunity to discover the rich cultural tapestry of Oakland without breaking the bank.
  2. Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: To discover last-minute deals to Oakland, visit the DealsOpens in a new window or Last-Minute Deals sections on Hotels.com, where you may find discounted rates on hotels as your travel date approaches. Consider enabling email alerts or push notifications to stay informed about flash sales and special offers, which could help you save on your trip. Additionally, the Smart Shopping tool available via the app allows you to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see the best options. With these tools, you'll be primed to book a last-minute getaway.
  3. Be flexible with dates: Prices can fluctuate depending on factors such as the hotel's location, star rating, and the time of year, so being flexible with your travel dates could help you save on your stay in an Oakland hotel. For those seeking unique accommodations, boutique hotels often provide a more personalised experience and may offer better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we'll inform you whether the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average. If the price leans towards the higher end, we’ll suggest alternative dates that could be more affordable, helping you to secure a better deal.
  4. Consider your location: Hotels situated near the city centre generally tend to be more expensive, but thanks to Oakland's superb public transport connections, you may discover a more affordable independent hotel a little further out that remains well linked. For those keen to explore alternative, less crowded neighbourhoods or even lesser-known nearby towns, there is often excellent value for money to be found. Opting for these alternative destinations could provide a more authentic and budget-friendly experience.
