Scores of pristine beaches in Kas lie dotted around this laidback little town. The town is awash with beautiful beaches to explore. And as the perfect antidote to nearby Antalya – the glitzy superstar of Türkiye’s roaring seaside tourism trade – Kas remains refreshingly relaxed and off-the-beaten-track. In place of glam models and cashed-up globetrotters, bohemians and intellectuals rule the roost in this unpretentious sun-drenched spot.

But it won’t stay undiscovered forever, as the sheer beauty of Kas’ gorgeous coastline is going to garner international acclaim, sooner or later. So, get in quick before everyone else and discover these top coasts while they’re still in their prime and find which Kas beach is best for you.

    Kaputas Beach

The most beautiful of all Kas beaches

Kaputas Beach, to most punters, is the most breathtakingly beautiful beach in Kas, if not in all of Türkiye. Tucked between 2 dramatic precipices below the highway some 26 km west of town, it’s worth visiting Kaputas for the photo op alone. Clear turquoise waters and fine, powdery sand (a rarity in the region) await those who descend its notoriously steep stairs.

To get there, you can flag down one of the frequent westward minibuses. If you’d prefer to drive, know that there’s minimal parking in the area, especially during peak season when the beach packs out. Onsite, you’ll find a municipality-run café, bathroom facilities, and loads of sun loungers.

Akçagerme Beach is one for the little ones – it’s among the top family-friendly plajı (beaches) in the region. Located in a stunning bay, it’s clear and clean waters and calm lapping waves create a perfect playground for the kids to frolic in the sun. And if they tire of splashing about and building sandcastles, there’s a nearby aqua park, tennis court, and play equipment to keep them entertained.

Akçagerme Beach is about 6 km west of town, making it easy to reach in a taxi or passing dolmus minivan. Tourism students from a local high school run the site, so expect moderate services and facilities.

    Limanagzi Bay

    Kas’ most secluded beach escape

Limanagzi Bay should be your first port of call should you fancy a secluded day out on the beach. How so? Because there’s literally no road there, so the only way to arrive is by boat. Passenger ferries depart every half hour from the Kas pier in the morning and stop at one or all of the bay’s 4 beaches – Nuri's, Don Quixote, Otağ, and Bilal's – depending on demand.

Each spot is equally stunning and features its own restaurant with bathroom facilities plus a small contingent of cute Caretta turtles. Remember, the last boat back to town in the summer is at 5pm, so don’t be late. Of course, you could always stay the night in one of the romantic beachfront resorts instead.

    Hidayet Bay Beach

    A superb snorkelling destination

Hidayet Koyu Plajı (Hidayet Bay Beach) is one of the top spots for snorkelling in the area. Scores of fish and a solid chance of spotting Caretta turtles means bringing a mask and snorkel is a must. Of course, there’s plenty of opportunities for beach bums to kick back on the cliff-lined stretch as well.

Be aware that Hidayet Koyu Plajı is somewhat developed, so don’t come in search of respite. Still, a tasty onsite restaurant serves up all your favourite Turkish classics (sometimes with a smile), and there’s no denying the scenery here is picturesque. It’s only 5 minutes’ drive from Kas heading west on Beyhan Cenkçi Caddesi.

    Kas Municipality Public Beach

    A Kas beach for all

Kas Belediyesi Halk PlajI (Kas Municipality Public Beach) is one of the few municipality-run beaches around Kas, meaning it’s completely free and an excellent option for budget-minded beach bums. This public beach is certainly no slouch, with turquoise-tinged waters and a pretty shale shoreline (bring your aqua shoes) to match the best of them.

Given it’s a public beach, the vibe here is notably more laidback than other spots around Kas. Even so, you’ll still find all the necessities for a fun day in the sun: umbrella rentals, restaurants, bathroom facilities, and even a cosy lawn to lie on. Ladies can sunbathe away from prying eyes in the women-only section.

    Patara Beach

A popular place for nestling Caretta turtles

Patara Beach is your plajı of choice when you can’t stomach the thought of another rocky coastline around Kas. As the area’s only public beach with fine sand, Patara isn’t exactly unspoiled as scores of sun-worshippers hit the spot over the summer. Even so, it’s as soft as you could hope sand to be and you’ll almost always find a spot to pull up a towel on the 18-km stretch.

The star attractions here, however, are the Caretta turtles that use Patara Beach as their primary breeding ground in Türkiye. Don’t set up an umbrella to avoid cracking their eggs and get out of there before sundown to give them space to hatch their young.

Buyuk Cakil (Big Pebble Beach) is just a 20-minute walk south of Kas, so it’s a top spot for carless travellers looking for a pretty beach within strolling distance. Of course, its name should clue you in to the fact that you won’t find any fine sand here.

Nonetheless, clean blue waters, a tasty Turkish restaurant, and cheap sun loungers for rent (sometimes free, off-season) provide plenty of reason to linger – all this in a laidback and unpretentious locale. Come during the evening to stargaze as you listen to local musos belt out their best acoustic tunes.

İnceboğaz Çınar Beach is an outstanding lesser-known spot within easy reach of Kas. In fact, at only 1.5 km from the heart of town, you can walk here on a whim. Upon arrival, beachgoers are greeted with sweeping views of both the Aegean Sea and Bucak Bay as the beach lies on the thinnest point of the Cukurbag Peninsula.

To complement the gorgeous vistas, there’s a small but great restaurant serving delicious food, inexpensive sun lounger rentals, and functional bathroom facilities. There’s even a beachfront backgammon set for when you tire of soaking up the sun. The waters here are gentle, so it’s a good option for the little ones as well.

    Seyrek Cakil Beach

    • Unusual

Seyrek Cakil Beach lies within easy reach of the world-famous Kaputas Beach in Kas, making it a great little side trip for anyone visiting its celebrity big brother. But the 2 siblings couldn’t be further apart – while Kaputas receives international attention, little old Seyrek Cakil remains virtually unknown.

The attractive rocky beach has no restaurants and no bathroom amenities. And you know what that means? No tourist throngs either. Come to Seyrek Cakil if you’re sick of the midsummer crowds and yearn for a fun day in the sun with scarcely another traveller in sight. But don’t worry – you'll get access to cushy sun loungers to protect your tush from the rocky shores.

    Small Pebble Beach

Kucuk Cakil (Small Pebble Beach) is your go-to for when you don’t want to venture far as this tiny little stretch of shoreline lies right in the heart of town. Sure, it’s a wee bit on the small and crowded side and requires a descent down steep stairs to reach, but the waters are clear, and the convenient location can’t be beat.

Other bigger options abound nearby, including the always lively Derya Beach where locals and tourists come for a cheeky sundowner or 2. Keep an eye out for brave Turkish kids doing acrobatic leaps into the water from overhanging rocks.
