Zell Am See Hotels

Perched at the foot of the great Schmittenhöhe mountain, on the edge of the dazzling Lake Zell, Zell am See is a whitewashed paradise for skiers of all abilities and inclinations. Its perfect location allows for simple access to the surrounding slopes – rich with powdery snow, astonishing views, and plenty of memorable drinking and dining opportunities. This delightful town also welcomes visitors in search of a relaxing break – looking to absorb the distinct culture and local history – as well as those seeking high-speed thrills and a lively party scene.

Things to see

Since 1928, when construction on the town’s cable-car link to the Schmittenhöhe was completed, tourists from all over the world have flocked to the beautiful lakeside location. Boasting an extra-long ski season, this magical winter landscape guarantees unforgettable outdoor adventures. In addition to an abundance of ski options for both professionals and beginners on the Schmittenhöhe, the adjacent Kitzsteinhorn promises many a riveting afternoon carving deep tracks into the crisp, sparkling snow. Year-round glacier skiing in the town of Kaprun is a favoured attraction. To taste the full, flamboyant flavour of the Austrian ski experience, a healthy dose of après-ski is an absolute must; a catalogue of restaurants, inns, and Alpine huts double up as party venues that run deep into the night – you won’t be disappointed. For the more relaxed holidaymakers, Zell am See offers an array of tranquil bars and pubs perfect for chilling out, where you can kick back with a fruity and fragrant mulled wine after a day basking in the fresh air of the Salzburg Province. If you’re visiting outside the ski season, the summer months make for excellent hiking, and the old town is packed with fascinating history reaching back into Roman times. It’s well worth exploring the region’s lush Alpine pastures by bike, and a dip in the bluest lake you’ll ever set eyes on is hard to pass up.

Of course, you might find all you need at a comfy family hotel in amidst the hustle and bustle of the pedestrianized part of town. If not, a quiet mountainside retreat could be the ideal base from which to explore the wonders of the region. An eclectic range of refined cuisines can be found throughout Zell am See.
