Birthday Stay
The room was very spacious and clean but lack of attention to basic needs ie: no bath mat or hand towels let it down a bit. Also a big problem is that they do not accept payment by card and have no eating facilities on site.

Don’t believe the description. NO breakfast, NO WiFi, cash only, very scruffy, in dire need of total refurb. Staff friendly and helpful but no backing or support from management. They Try to keep it clean, but no finish. Window stuck open. Drawer front came off . Furniture old, mismatched, not even fit for boot sale. Closet curtain off hooks, bedding unpressed, cushions with no covers, lamp with no bulb, no liners in waste basket, toilet seat loose, no bathmat, no tooth glass, no towel rail, no shampoo, very small towels. No reception..only in busy public bar. Entry outside through separate scarey black door then up scruffy stairs with no handrail on corners. Had to find own room. Had to carry milk jug this way too! Anything good? Hot water, clean bedding, friendly staff or I would have left..... No. I will not be back. Certainly not fit for letting to public. Management should be ashamed and it should not be on sites like this . Letting you down too.

Room and bed were not clean, could do with a thorough refurbishment. I tried to,cancel the 2nd & 3rd night at the hotel, I rang the hotel on 5 separate occasions, I left two messages, but I am still waiting for an answer 7 days later. Service is totally inadequate, nobody manning the reception area.

Central but......
Stairs to rooms, very steep. Large room, needs refurb but good ensuite shower room. Problems right from the start like no one there to open the place before noon, TV had no signal, extractor fan not working, light over mirror not working and cannot pay by card for the room. No food served. The coffee sachets were all 2 or 3 in one. No use if, like me, you prefer black coffee. The manager did give me her own small jar of coffee to use. The staff at the Plough Inn were a great help when I had turned up in the hope of leaving my case as I had a trip to go on at 1pm. Plough Inn breakfast good value and very tasty.

The hotel was located in the centre of the town, which was fine. It looked from the outside, relatively but from the inside it looked tired and in need of some resources being thrown at it. The staff comprised one person for the downstairs bar area and for anything required from guests. This meant that we couldn't be shown the room directly as the staff member couldn't leave the bar - again a resource issue. A lot of 'papering-up the cracks' was evident in terms of decorative repairs both in the hall and in the room. The lever on the door to our room did not engage and so the door only properly closed when the lock bolt was engaged by turning the key. At first glance the room looked relatively clean, although there were some areas that looked at least like they had been missed and I suspect all the rooms could do with a deep clean and a full redecoration. The bathroom was overly large for the room and also needed a new face-lift.

No Value
The room was dirty, cobwebs, hairs on the bed, broken cupboard drawer, no soap and not even enough toilet paper to suffice. If you want a cup of tea in the room, the facilities are there but no milk. The Avenue Restaurant does not appear to be open at any time of day and the promised WiFi was not available. No bulb in the bedside lamp. No staff around and the Tesco over the road thankfully, provided better W.C. and breakfast facilities. How much is a bottle of bleach, a feather duster or a bar of soap? Sorry, but this was terrible value for money. Tired! Grotty! Avoid.

Very basic, does not take card payments. When leaving the following day no-one to hand key to, 12.00 in the afternoon still nobody to give key to.

Pleasant welcome but run-down facilities
£80/night for accommodation of this standard is completely unreasonable. Scruffy entrance into sleeping area; old, cheap beds and bedding; one bath towel per person - no bathmat or hand towel; shower falling to bits and bath not draining properly; no electricity in the morning (presumably the electric shower tripped the circuit); no breakfast included. This accommodation is on its last legs and needs a rethink soon - that should include double glazing, as it's on quite a busy road. Shame, because the pub has potential and the person in charge was friendly.

No knowledge of our booking
When we arrived at the pub below, the barmaid had no knowledge of our reservation (as well as three other reservations that same night). Staff were nice and very apologetic and someone came in from their day off to prepare our room, but clearly the upper management are a shambles. The staircase up to the rooms was worn and is in need of a refurb. Likewise the room was dated but fine, bed was comfy enough and shower worked well (both a little difficult for a tall person). No hot water in the hot tap and the wifi didn't work. Management at the top need to make big changes for this to be worthy of a 3 star establishment, starting with telling their staff who is actually coming to stay.

Budget but 6 miles from Aberlady Bay
Warm welcome, this is a room above a pub, no restaurant and pub food finished at 3pm. Plenty of other pubs, cafes, takeaways near .Free weekend parking very close by. Cheap too soft mattresses and bathroom window latch broken. Bathroom radiator wasn’t fitted and stood in corner.

No room at the inn
There was none, got to hotel was told had no room and note of no booking. Highly embarrassed for us and the hotel itself. I had booked this hotel through Expedia over 2 months ago and had booking confirmation. Was not pleased one bit as was attending a wedding that night and need a place to stay as live over and hour away. Bad organization on hotel part. I was luck that a bed and breakfast had a room other wise would have been stranded. Thank you the plough BB great service and great place to stay five star to the staff for sorting us out

Dirty and uncomfortable hotel
When we first arrived at the hotel we were stood in the bar with no one in charge. Someone eventually can in after finishing their cigarette, wandered round the bar, pretended to be busy by fiddling with bottles and cupboard doors before welcoming us. We then explained that we had a room booked. The person in charge responded by putting their head in their hands before saying they only had one room left with 2 single beds. They explained that booking a room through a booking website does not work and it hasn’t worked for some time....yet this still hasn’t been sorted. They almost made it out to be our fault even though we were the third couple that day for this to happen to. With no other option we accepted the room. The person in charge escorted us to the front door of the apartments and left us at the bottom of the stairs. We were told that the room was open because they had cleaned it that morning. When we entered the room it’s was very disappointing. Stains on the carpet, stains all over the shower curtain, cobwebs in most corners, the bathroom radiator off the wall and chucked next to the bath, towels had a damp smell and the bedding definitely wasn’t fresh. We only needed the room to sleep in for one night but even that was difficult. The two mattresses we so uncomfortable that we both couldn’t sleep and had sore backs in the morning. In the morning we left earlier than intended because we didn’t want to stay in the room any more. We can safely say we won’t be back.

This place is the pits. It’s a doss house. Going through a side door up stairs where the carpets folding up it’s covered in food. The room was minging, just awful. No hot water was a great chance to take our money back and find another hotel. Never again.

One night stay.
We only stayed one night, but the service was very good. The lady that helped us was very helpful and friendly. The room was older, but fine. The restaurant was no longer open, but we ate across the street and it was very good.

Dissatisfied
No complaints about the member of staff who greeted us but the lack of hot water was simply unacceptable. As there was no actual reception, just the bar area, there was no one we could raise these issues with on the second day.....we did raise it on the Saturday and were told it was being addressed. Really not happy.

Room was very spacious and clean. Only downside was that it was on a room only basis so no breakfast available and nowhere to get anything to eat on Sunday morning.

My experience at the hotel was not a good one. The hotel boasts a restaurant, but that was closed. I understand that the hotel is for 'let' and only temporary person behind the bar, who doesn't know where anything is. The rooms have large sash windows, and the open window came crashing down on my finger, causing bruising and a deep gash. The person behind the bar was sympathetic, but had trouble finding a first aid kit, and when it was found there were items missing, also no accident book. The mattress was so uncomfortable - there was no tea or milk. No breakfast. The hotel is very run-down and needs someone to take responsibility for it's upkeep - a very tatty place to be

Never again !!
The room was very dated. Bed clothes looked slept in, so we had to sleep on top of the bed. The bed was uncomfortable and noisy. There was only 1 sachet of coffee. The toilet was dirty and the water was cold. We did book late but don't advertise the room as available then make the guests feel very unwelcome and awkward. No breakfast offered so we left before 6am as couldn't sleep and just wanted to get out. What a waste of £80. Wished I'd slept in the van.

Hotel closed, don't book
Booked online, tried to call hotel to ask if we could arrive early (1pm) to drop off bags as we were attending a wedding at 2pm, number not recognised and the only number that worked was hotels.com which is an automated line. We turned up just after 1 but the door was locked and no answer when we knocked, we were starting to panic as wedding is at 2 and to let sign outside the hotel. We ended up staying at the Plough Tavern next door which was perfect for what we needed and lovely staff. I've no idea if the Victoria Inn is open but I would definitely not recommended it. We were so lucky to get a room at the Plough last minute.
