Stayed at Capt’n Gregg’s for a 3-day conference. Accommodations were awesome. Staff was great. Check-in was a bit scary because Expedia messed-up the booking, but Chuck was able to make everything right. Loved the place.

Basic but very comfortable rooms. The restaurant is quite good and proportions are very big. The attached dive shop is first rate.

Position
Nicely positioned on the beach front .Being a diving town always busy on the working beach Also close to the shopping area and the lively night life . Rooms are of a good size , however the shower area in need of an upgrade Staff are so attentive and always smiling . Nice place to stay

The room was ok. The view from our room was over looking a roof top but did enjoy the patio deck. The room floor was dirty and very sandy. The coffee cups were not cleaned. We arrived middle of the night due to travel delays and our paid for room was already rented. We did get a free upgrade. The room shown in the booking was not the room we were getting. We extended our stay 3 days and had to pay upgrade charges. All and all I would stay there again. At least next time I know what to expect. Our breakfast there was not included but it was very good and plentiful.

OK if You Are a Cheapskate or on a tight budget.
I have stayed at this place before and everything worked fine. But this time there was no hot water and the air conditioning seemed subpar. The room is clean, but small. Great view of the ocean, plus they have a restaurant and a good dive shop on the property.

STAY AWAY
Stay away if at all possible. The dive shop is courteous and professional but the hotel is so bad it hard to describe. Starts with the owner. Rude and unfriendly and unprofessional doesn’t bigin to describe this flipping guy. Wow what a way to treat guests that can write a reviews. Upon check in said help and asking a few questions he was so rude that we were in shock. Like it was beneath him to even speak to a germ like us. Plus I stayed 6 out of my 8 days booked because half the time there was no water. If you companies about no water he looked at you like you are the problem. Oh and NO HOT WATER EVER!!! Solar heat water so if cloudy or rain etc there is no hot water. Lucky to get cold shower because water not working. Some restaurant dishes ok. But they have a nightly BBQ, that they sell low grade top sirloin and call it tender loin. So over cooked and tough you couldn’t eat it. But charge you anyway. Condition of bathroom and rooms in general is deplorable.

You get what you pay for.
Lots of deferred maintenance. Owner will not fix anything even if you ask. No hot water, they rely on solar, may be warm in the afternoon. Food is good and staff is friendly but terrible service.

Just what i was looking for
When i travel, there are 2 things that are very very important for me. Clean sheets and clean bathroom. The room i booked from this hotel told me that i should set my standards higher. It gives you that feel that you really are on a vacation and throws u a wake-up that you are in 1 of the islands because of the wooden accents and pieces. The veranda, which i only wanted so i could have a place to smoke, has a view of the ocean although there's a roof of their kitchen that covers a part of it but come on, i can't be that lucky. The matress...ohhh gosh the matress is a winner. It provided me comfort right from the day we arrived until we left. The moment our our backs are on that bed, snore will follow. There is something wrong with the airconditioning though, it's really not cold maybe because of the size of the room that's quite spacious, but hey, they've got the e-fan provided for free to boost it up. The ambiance is nice and hellllll, good food! The serving was quite of a handful too. Really worth the money. I will definitely recommend Capt'n Gregg to my friends.

nice place at Sabang Beach
The place has some charme. The upstairs Beach Resto-Bar is kept in wooden marine style and offers a good view on Sabang Beach. Rooms are clean and friendly.

I did not stay there. They had no record of my reservation. My confirmation # did not matter to the desk girls. I did not stay and argue with them. I went to another hotel and paid for my stay. I hope you will refund my payment. Thank You, RichardA Raymer

Interesting place to be in a Typhoon.
A good bar, restaurant and accomodation, especially for Divers and/or Hashers. Interesting stay during Typhoon, apart from problems with power and wifi mostly caused by the weather conditions. Good, friendly staff. Excellent food.

Perfect for diving, food and fun.
I stayed in Sabang during September 2015 despite being told by a filipina friend that White Beach was a much better choice in Puerto Galera. I am so glad that I ignored her advice!! I came here to complete my Open Water Diver and chose Captn Greggs for accommodation and as my course provider. All of the dive sites in Puerto Galera are based around Sabang and many of them 5 minutes from the shore. The amount of dive sites there is staggering and I couldn't believe how much coral and fish I saw so close to the shoreline. I did some discovery dives in Coron and they paled in comparison (wreck diving aside). Anyway more about Capt'n Greggs. There are only a few rooms here, they're quite basic but comfortabale (mine had air con and a small TV). For the money, you can't go wrong. The guys that work here are experienced divers and amiable ex-pats who welcomed me with open arms (and beer tops). The food at Capt'n Greggs is GREAT, all of it! Be aware that this little village transforms at night as one person said it's like "From Dusk Till Dawn" so expect girly bars pumping loud music to suddenly appear out of nowhere. But there's a lively, bustling feel about the place. I stumbled onto this place by chance and on a whim while looking for good diving close to Manila, but would go back in a heartbeat. Note - allow about 4-5 hours to get from Manila to here. Take a bus to Batangas Pier and take a bangka.

A Good Budget Choice
I have been to Puerta Galera many times, and this is probably one of the best budget choices, as long as you don't need a swimming pool or some other amenities the more expensive places usually have. The rooms are clean and the hotel is very convenient to everything in Sabang. The dive shop is very convenient and the prices are reasonable. Also, a restaurant is on the property (didn't eat there).
