After seeing the amazing reviews and stunning pictures online, we decided to stay at Mandalai and booked ourselves in the most expensive room at £70 a night. Upon arriving we soon realised that the upkeep of the hotel was clearly not a priority and that the state of our room was unacceptable. The bed sheets, duvet and all our pillows were stained, as were the bath robes, towels and the walls. The curtains were absolutely disgusting and I can believe they had not been replaced. To top it all off there were ants everywhere and we had to ask the woman at reception to come and get rid of them twice. There was also no hot water at all, so despite there being a bath in the room and also being one of the reasons we decided to stay at Mandalai, we could not have a bath. The staff were very helpful and tried to rectify the problems we told them of but unfortunately we were still extremely disappointed with our stay. The hotel has such potential to be amazing and if they simply replaced all the filthy items and furnishings in the room we would have been happy to pay £70. Unfortunately, we felt extremely disappointed and would rather stay somewhere much cheaper where the conditions would not have been so filthy. Not what we expected at all!
