Nice character building in quiet village very conveniently situated off A64. Parking available. Friendly reception & swift check in. I was in spacious en-suite room. Basic standard of furnishings/good level of cleanliness & amenities. Good Wi-Fi connection. Good enough breakfast (table served) Very friendly/relaxed atmosphere/staff throughout with special mention for "Jill." Overall very good value stay thank you.

OK, but needs improvement

Most aspects, the welcome, drinks and breakfast were fine, but one room had ceiling lights that were not working and the other had lights not working in the private bathroom. Worst of all was the shower in the private bathroom.... highly unsatisfactory, just a trickle. These things were pointed out on departure and I hope that they will be rectified for subsequent guests.

This hotel was disappointing right from the start. On checking in there was 2 staff members but only one who seemed to deal with check ins. This was rushed and we felt like an inconvenience to her. The lady who cleans the rooms was very helpful however so not a complete disaster. The hotel is on a busy noisy road so no sleep. Window struggled to open with all the plant thick around the windows, no offer of a fan or a mini fridge. The room was very hot and had to purchase our own fan to at least try and get some sleep.

Lovely old inn. Comfortable rooms, lovely and warm on arrival and throughout - I actually turned the radiator down. Lovely staff, good breakfast, free parking. Slept well. I’ve stayed here for a music festival in Whitby 3 times and booked again for next year whilst there this year. Highly recommend.
