so much potential
It wouldn’t have taken much for this place to have been perfect. It’s a beautiful location with fabulous views. However the room was disgusting, there was some awful staining on wall that to me meant the room was not in a fit state to be let out. When asked to be moved the manager didn’t even come to me to explain there was no rooms available, instead sent someone to say they are waiting to be painted. Not good enough! The restaurant was just ok, again wouldn’t have taken much to be brilliant, asked for a sea view and given issues on check in would have expected to be given best seat in the house, however we were placed in the back corner of restaurant, no atmosphere and to make matters worse, the food was under seasoned and just ok! Not what was expected when paying a premium. I’m all for supporting local businesses but not when given a subpar experience.

Sea view lockdown escape
My wife and I stayed in Carnaween for two nights as a staycation in Ireland after the Covid lockdown. The location was perfect, right on the beach and with stunning views. The rooms, while small, were comfortable and modern. The hotel did show some signs of deterioration; rust in the bathroom on the mirror and the taps which was unfortunate. The food was excellent but again slightly let down on the terrace where, whilst eating al fresco during a chilly night there was no heaters on the patio. We are provided with some lap blankets though which was much appreciated. The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant during the stay and we’ll definitely be back.

Not worth the money stay elsewhere
The rooms and the restaurant are run by two different people. The one who runs the rooms lives in London and therefore not present to oversee anything to do with guests staying over, and restaurant staff are focussed on serving food. On arrival the beds were not made, tiles in the bathroom were coming away from walls, the extractor fan pulsed when on making the lights flash and was full of hair and dirt. The glass ceiling light that was full of dead flies was also hanging from the cable it was wired in with. The shower head came off in my hand but was at least a good pressure and hot. All of the hooks to hang clothes on were broken apart from 1- there is no wardrobe as the rooms are small. The view was lovely over the beach but then below the windows rubbish from the kitchen was piled high and staff members congregated to smoke and make noise. Our dinner reservation didn’t go well either, we were moved last minute into the restaurant despite booking outside - sat at the back of a restaurant on built in seating which also incorporated the radiators. Literally eating your dinner while sat on a radiator at full heat on a summers night isn’t much of a dining experience. On complaining to the staff we were given a complimentary bottle of wine for the mix up with the dinner reservation which was appreciated, but they couldn’t address any of the issues with the room. For the price of this room, I’d have expected a much better standard of accommodation. The opportunity exis
